(Baonghean.vn) - After land consolidation and reallocation, Quynh Giang (Quynh Luu) has proactively converted areas of low-yield, inefficient crops into livestock and poultry farms, which has brought in high income.

Mr. Thai Dien's family in Hamlet 5, Quynh Giang Commune, has requested the Commune People's Committee to change the land use purpose of the Cong Am rice field – a deep, low-yielding rice-growing area – to build a comprehensive livestock farm and to receive an additional 5,000 m2 in this field to dig a fish pond in combination with rice cultivation.

Households developing farm and small-scale agricultural businesses in Quynh Giang produce their own seeds to reduce costs.

With his diligent and hardworking nature, he overcame difficulties in capital and applied scientific and technical methods correctly, so his livestock herd has grown steadily. Currently, his farm has 2,000 ducks and 2,000 laying hens. In addition, he also grows dozens of fruit trees of various kinds such as guava and longan.

Each year, after deducting family expenses, he earns a profit of nearly 150 million VND.

As for Mr. Le Van Dung in Hamlet 4, Quynh Giang Commune, on his 1-hectare plot of land allocated to him by household and additional land received from the commune in the Trai village area, in 2007 he boldly borrowed over 1 billion VND to invest in hiring laborers and machinery to dig fish ponds and plan and build livestock pens to diversify his animal husbandry. Each year, he raises 1,000 chickens, nearly 2,000 ducks, 6 buffaloes, 13 pigs, and 41 breeding goats.

He regularly researched and learned from mass media to apply to his family's situation. At the same time, he partnered with a company that supplies feed for his livestock. As a result, his family's livestock and poultry always thrive. In addition, he also leased 10 hectares of forest land from the commune to plant acacia and eucalyptus trees. With this sound investment strategy, his family earns over 100 million dong annually.

The entire Quynh Giang commune has 11 farms and family-run livestock operations. Thanks to the correct application of scientific and technical procedures, care methods, especially in terms of breeding, feed, and veterinary work, these farms have achieved high economic efficiency, with an average income of 100-150 million VND per farm, contributing to the transformation of the local economic structure. In 2015, income from livestock farming in Quynh Giang commune accounted for over 45% of the total income of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector.

To further enhance the economic efficiency of the model and promote local development, Quynh Giang commune is actively implementing a comprehensive set of technical solutions and disease prevention measures, while also ensuring environmental protection in livestock farming. Simultaneously, they are encouraging households to voluntarily exchange farmland with each other, creating favorable conditions for the formation of concentrated farm areas.

Utilizing the water surface area to raise ducks also creates a food source for fish in Quynh Giang.

Ms. Chu Thi Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Giang commune, said: "In the coming time, Quynh Giang commune will continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to convert areas of infertile land and low-yield crops into integrated farm economic models to increase value per unit area. For family farms, we will encourage them to invest in expansion to increase their income. For households in need of capital, the People's Committee of the commune will act as a guarantor with banks so that these households can borrow capital to create jobs locally. The commune will also strengthen the organization of training courses to transfer scientific and technical advancements to farming households."

The effectiveness of these models demonstrates a sustainable economic development direction for farmers in Quynh Giang. This contributes to accelerating poverty reduction efforts in the locality.
