(Baonghean.vn) - Existing for hundreds of years with a majestic shape, the My Thinh banyan tree is considered by the people of Hoa Phu hamlet, Hien Son commune (Do Luong) as a source of pride and a symbol of the village's enduring vitality.
According to the genealogy of the Nguyen Quang family – a large family in the village, the My Thinh banyan tree dates back to the 16th century, more than half a millennium old. The tree is still green and located at the village intersection.
During the resistance war, the banyan tree area was the military base, political training place for soldiers, the place where military equipment and supplies were stored, the place where gunpowder was produced for Military Region IV, the place where young men were sent off to join the army, and the place where memorial services were held for more than 20 of those who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland.

The elders said: During the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930-1931) and the August Revolution, the banyan tree was where local people gathered to hold rallies, demonstrate, meet, and seize power. This was also where some revolutionaries were tortured by the enemy. |

People in My Thinh village often call it "The three-branch, nine-bud banyan tree" because its main root radiates three branches and on its trunk there are exactly nine buds creating many secondary roots, firmly linked and interwoven. |
The tree roots are rough, with large holes, showing the traces of time. |
Through storms, bullets and bombs, the banyan tree still grows green and lush. On its trunk there are many species of “mistletoe”. |
Spreading its shade in the center of the village, the cool village banyan tree is sometimes the "workplace"... |
The elderly often like to play chess under the banyan tree. |
The ancient banyan tree has been associated with the childhood and life of many generations of villagers, and is the embodiment of the ancient beauty of My Thinh village. “The ancient landscape still exists/ Below is the Vap lake, above is Ru Re islet/ In the middle of the village, there are banyan trees standing in harmony/ The My Thinh countryside captivates people.” |
