Su-34 fighter jet crashes near Ukraine border, Czech warns of Kiev casualties
A Russian Su-34 fighter jet and an Mi-8 helicopter have crashed in the Bryansk region. The Czech Republic's president has warned that Ukraine will suffer heavy casualties in a counter-offensive.
According to TASS, on May 13, a Su-34 fighter jet and a Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian army crashed in the Bryansk region, near the Ukrainian border. Currently, the authorities have not announced any casualties or the cause of the incident.
Russian media reported that images from the scene showed the tail and engine of the Su-34 on fire. The Mi-8 helicopter is believed to have exploded in mid-air before crashing to the ground.

According to Baza media, local authorities are conducting a search for the suspect behind the incident. Some information suggests that the incident was carried out by foreign spies.
A day earlier, a Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter also crashed in the Crimean peninsula. The Russian Defense Ministry said that both pilots on board were killed, with the initial cause believed to be a technical malfunction during training.
Czech President warns Ukraine
According to Reuters, on May 12 (local time), Czech President Petr Pavel commented on Ukraine's counter-offensive campaign. Mr. Pavel said that Kiev has a high chance of success but will suffer significant losses.
"Ukraine's counterattack has a high success rate, because Kiev is motivated, well-prepared and has rich combat experience. However, Russia has had enough time to set up defense systems, if they use them effectively, the Ukrainian army will suffer great casualties," he said.

According to President Pavel, it is difficult to judge how much territory Ukraine will regain after the counteroffensive, because many scenarios can happen. He also said that Kiev will receive the modern fighter jets it requested, but they will come after the counteroffensive.
US ambassador apologizes for accusing South Africa of sending weapons to Russia
According to Reuters, on May 12 (local time), US Ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety apologized for his statement that South Africa had provided weapons to Russia.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to speak with the South African Foreign Minister and correct the misinformation in my public statements," Brigety said.
