On the working day of May 29, the National Assembly will listen to the Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs present a report on the draft Labor Code (amended) with many new regulations.

Continuing the working program of the 7th Session, on the morning of May 29, National Assembly deputies worked in the hall listening to the Minister of Planning and Investment and Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee read the Submission and Report on the verification of the allocation and use of reserve funds for the Medium-term Public Investment Plan for the period 2016-2020.

Next, the National Assembly listened to Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh present a Report on joining the International Labor Organization's Convention No. 98 on the Application of the Principles of the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining; the Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs presented an Explanatory Report on the International Labor Organization's Convention No. 98 on the Application of the Principles of the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining; and the Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee presented a Report on the Examination of the Accession to the International Labor Organization's Convention No. 98 on the Application of the Principles of the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining.

The Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Social Affairs read the Submission and Review Report on the draft Labor Code (amended).

The amendment of the Labor Code aims to perfect the socialist-oriented market economy institution, promote the development of the labor market; fundamentally resolve difficulties and shortcomings from practical implementation after 5 years of application in practice and create a more open and flexible legal framework for recruitment and employment to better ensure the legitimate rights and interests of employees and employers, contributing to improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese workers.

The draft law submitted to the National Assembly for comments focuses on issues with different opinions, such as expanding the framework for agreements on maximum overtime hours; options for adjusting the retirement age; on the organization of workers' representatives at the workplace; on the Lunar New Year holiday; on adding a holiday to the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs; on the working hours of civil servants, public employees, and workers in administrative agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations.

During the remaining time of the morning session, National Assembly deputies discussed in groups the allocation and use of reserve funds for the 2016-2020 medium-term public investment plan.
