iPhone Air Officially Revealed: Apple's Thinnest and Most Durable Super Product

Apple has just officially launched the iPhone Air, the most anticipated iPhone model this year and also the thinnest device in the company's history. With a 6.5-inch screen and a body only 5.6mm thick, the iPhone Air has broken the thinnest record ever held by the iPhone 6 (6.9mm), affirming a new step forward in the philosophy of super compact but still luxurious design.

Despite its “supermodel” body, the iPhone Air is not inferior in power. The device is equipped with the latest A19 Pro chip and 12GB RAM, on par with the high-end iPhone 17 Pro line.

Notably, the iPhone Air also marks an important turning point in Apple's ambition to be self-sufficient in modem technology. The device integrates the new generation C1X modem, developed from the C1 modem that appeared on the iPhone 16e and is famous for its power saving ability. According to Apple, the C1X is not only faster than the modem of the iPhone 16 Pro but also makes the iPhone Air the most battery-saving iPhone model ever.

The inclusion of the C1X in the iPhone Air also reflects Apple’s long-term strategy to reduce its dependence on Qualcomm, as the current modem supply agreement only lasts until March 2027. If the C1 and C1X prove effective, Apple could move towards using its own modems across the entire iPhone lineup in the near future.

iPhone Air hardware and camera specifications

Despite its super-slim design, the iPhone Air still receives a strong investment from Apple in hardware, especially the camera system. The device has a 48 megapixel main camera combined with a 2x telephoto lens, providing the ability to take sharp and detailed photos in many lighting conditions.

Apple claims the iPhone Air can capture impressive shots even in low-light environments, thanks to hardware optimization and new image processing algorithms.

A first-of-its-kind feature is “Dual Capture.” As the name suggests, the iPhone Air allows users to simultaneously record video with both the front and rear cameras, opening up a new experience for vloggers, event attendees, or simply family moments who want to capture both the main character and the surrounding scene. Apple seems to have an answer ready for concerns about the durability of the iPhone Air — an ultra-thin phone that many people doubt will be able to withstand everyday use. At the launch event, the company emphasized that the record-breaking thinness does not mean sacrificing durability.

According to Apple, the iPhone Air is made from 80% recycled grade 5 titanium alloy, ensuring both strength and weight reduction, while demonstrating the company's commitment to using sustainable materials. This is also a high-grade titanium commonly used in aerospace and medical applications, known for its corrosion resistance and good impact resistance.

Not stopping at the frame, Apple also upgraded the screen protection technology with Ceramic Shield 2, a new coating that is advertised as more durable than the first generation, helping to increase scratch resistance and limit damage when impacted.

Notably, this time Ceramic Shield is not only present on the front but also extended to the back glass, significantly enhancing the overall durability of the device. This can help the iPhone Air against common risks such as scratches, cracks when dropped or collided with hard objects.

With the combination of recycled grade 5 titanium and Ceramic Shield 2 all-around coating, Apple wants to assert that the iPhone Air is not only the thinnest iPhone, but also one of the most durable devices the company has ever produced - a move that should reassure users who are concerned about the trade-off between ultra-thin design and durability.

The iPhone Air starts at $999, with four color options: space black, cloud white, light yellow, and sky blue. The device will be available for pre-order from September 12 and officially on shelves on September 19./.
