On October 15, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial for defendant Nguyen Thi Dung (born in 1967), residing in Chau Loc commune, Quy Hop district, for murder. The victim in the case was the defendant's husband - Mr. Sam Van Q. (born in 1964).

The indictment stated that on the afternoon of June 22, 2024, Mr. Sam Van Q. took the lawn mower to be repaired but had not returned that evening. Therefore, when it was time for dinner, Dung called and her husband said he had not finished his work.
After finishing dinner, Dung called her husband many times but Mr. Q. replied that he was busy and had not returned yet. At 11pm that same day, Dung heard Mr. Q.'s motorbike and knew her husband had returned. However, due to joint pain, Dung could not get up.
At this time, Mr. Q. went into the bathroom and said he was drunk and asked to turn on the lights. When he saw his wife, Mr. Q. blamed her for not caring for her husband.
After that, the couple argued with each other. Mr. Q. chased and kicked his wife twice in the leg, causing her to fall to the ground next to the well.
Dung stood up and saw a knife, so she grabbed it and said: "Come in, come in." Mr. Q. replied: "Do whatever you want" and then walked towards his wife.
When her husband approached, Dung stabbed him twice with a knife, causing Mr. Q. to collapse. After stabbing her husband, Dung called for everyone to take Mr. Q. to the emergency room. However, the victim died of circulatory failure and acute respiratory failure because the wound punctured his heart and lungs...
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. The defendant stated that her husband was drunk and beat her, so she could not control her actions. The defendant expressed remorse and asked the court to consider a lighter sentence.
The panel of judges determined that in this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances that needed to be considered, such as her honest confession, remorse, surrender, partial remediation of the consequences, and the legal representative of the victim had filed a petition for a reduced sentence for the defendant. Therefore, the court sentenced Nguyen Thi Dung to 8 years in prison for murder.
