2016 Nobel Prize in Literature winner refuses to come to receive award
Legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, winner of the world's most prestigious literary award - the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature, has just confirmed to the award committee that he will not be present at the upcoming important event.
Singer of “Blowin' In The Wind” - Bob Dylan (75 years old) - will not come to Stockholm, Sweden to receive the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature from the organizing committee on December 10. This information has been confirmed by the Swedish Academy itself.
A representative of the Academy said that singer Bob Dylan contacted them directly to say that he wished he could be present to accept the award, but previous commitments made his schedule irreversible and so his presence at the awards ceremony was not possible.

In fact, this could be a "clever" way of refusing from Bob Dylan because his tour schedule in 2016 only lasts until the end of November and there is no official information about his performances taking place in December.
If the reason for the conflicting schedules and the inability to arrange the time is true, then the fact that Bob Dylan was not able to attend the Nobel Prize in Literature is really a matter of public curiosity. Currently, the event that Bob Dylan prioritized over the Nobel Prize ceremony remains a secret.
The American singer-songwriter became the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature on October 13, sparking a series of discussions, even controversies, surrounding the fact that for the first time in the history of the Nobel Prize in Literature, a musician received the award.
According to the Swedish Academy's brief comment about Bob Dylan in the official announcement honoring the winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, Bob Dylan has contributed to "creating new poetic ideas in American music".

The Swedish Academy announced on Wednesday that Bob Dylan will not be present at the official awards ceremony on December 10 in Stockholm, Sweden. |
In response to Bob Dylan's decision, a representative of the Swedish Academy said they respected his choice, and although the decision not to attend the award ceremony was quite unusual, it was not unprecedented in the 115-year history of the award.
The last time a Nobel Prize winner for Literature did not attend the award ceremony was in 2004 when Austrian novelist and screenwriter Elfriede Jelinek decided to stay home instead of going to Stockholm to receive the award, citing her fear of social interactions.
“The prize will remain Bob Dylan’s,” the Swedish Academy said. “We look forward to seeing Bob Dylan’s formal conversation about the Nobel Prize in Literature, which he will have to do, as required by the prize, within six months of December 10.”
Bob Dylan caused some controversy when it took him two weeks to speak out about being the winner of the world's most prestigious literary award.
