On September 23, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel strongly condemned the US embargo against his country.

In a video sent to the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly currently taking place in the US,President of CubaMiguel Díaz-Canel said that the US government has not stopped for a single moment in attacking Cuba for the past 60 years.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the US embargo has been further strengthened to sabotage Cuba. According to the Cuban President, the Democratic administration still maintains 243 coercive measures approved by the previous administration, including placing Cuba on the list of sponsors of terrorism.

However, despite the challenges and difficulties posed by the US, Cuba is still making efforts to support the world's COVID-19 prevention and control activities. Cuba has sent 4,700 medical staff to support 47 countries and territories around the world affected by the pandemic. Cuban scientists have developed 3 types of COVID-19 vaccines and deployed more than 15 million doses of vaccines across the country. Cuba aims to achieve community immunity by the end of 2021.

The United States severed diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1961 in response to the nationalization of American assets on the island. The United States then imposed an economic and trade embargo on Cuba.

Since 1992, Cuba has submitted to the United Nations General Assembly a draft resolution on the need to lift the US embargo every year. The vast majority of UN members have always voted in favor of the above draft resolution./.
