Speaking at an informal meeting of European Union (EU) ministers in Buchaest (Romania), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia has developed and produced medium-range missiles in recent times. "We ask Russia to continue to maintain the INF Treaty, because Russia itself is responsible for the collapse of the treaty," Mr. Stoltenberg affirmed.
According to NATO Secretary General, if Russia does not "return" to fulfill all obligations under the terms of the INF Treaty, it means NATO must prepare "for a world without INF".
Earlier, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the sanctions that NATO would apply in the event of the termination of the INF Treaty would be "unpredictable".
At the Russia-NATO Council meeting on January 26, the Russian representative reaffirmed his readiness to make efforts to continue dialogue on the INF Treaty.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has consistently stressed that new Russian-made missiles do not violate the terms of the treaty.
