National Assembly Chairman arrives in Bangkok to begin attending the 40th AIPA General Assembly

This afternoon, local time, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly arrived at Don Mueang Airport, Bangkok, to attend the 40th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA 40) and pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand from August 25-30, at the invitation of Mr. Chuan Leekpai, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, Chair of the 40th AIPA General Assembly.

Welcoming the National Assembly Chairman at the airport, on the Thai side were Mr. Suphachai Pohsu, Second Vice President of the Thai House of Representatives and Secretary General of the Thai House of Representatives Sorosak Pienvej; on the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang, officials of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Thailand.

The general theme of the 40th AIPA General Assembly is "Advancing Parliamentary Partnership for a Sustainable Community."

Attending the General Assembly, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and the high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam continued to affirm the role and position of the Vietnamese National Assembly in AIPA, enhancing the effectiveness of the National Assembly's foreign affairs, and affirming Vietnam's active and responsible participation in the process of building a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable ASEAN Community...

The official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan takes place in the context of the two countries' relations developing well in all areas, especially since upgrading relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2013.

During the visit, the National Assembly Chairman will hold talks and meetings with Thai leaders, assess the implementation of cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, discuss measures to enhance bilateral cooperation, cooperation at regional and international forums, as well as discuss a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
