Before graduating, two girls were sure to have a starting salary of 2,000 dollars.
The two girls' thoughts about the starting salary of 45 million VND/month are contrary to many people's imagination.
“How do I study to get a starting salary of $2,000/month?” Because of this question, a female student of the Academy of Cryptography (Hanoi) was “stoned” for a long time (in December 2016).
Most people think that for a fresh graduate with no solid knowledge or experience, that is an unimaginable salary.
However, while people are debating the feasibility of the $2,000 figure, two female students have already secured this salary even though they haven't graduated yet.
“Starting salary of $2,000/month is within reach”
When talking about the starting salary of thousands of dollars, Do Thi Phuong (Chemical Engineering Technology student, University of Natural Sciences, Hanoi) is still in the process of completing her graduation thesis. That is, even though she has not graduated yet, she already has a good job with a dream salary.

Do Thi Phuong - the girl who received a starting salary of $2,000/month. |
In January 2017, following the school’s recruitment information, Phuong applied to a Japanese pharmaceutical company and attended an interview. She confidently faced a series of questions from the recruiter, from professional knowledge to life skills…
And a month later, Phuong received a job offer from a Japanese company with the most respectful words, along with a salary proposal of over $2,000/month and a series of other incentives.
“There, I will participate in research and have a flexible probationary period of three months. If I do well, I will be signed an official contract. They also promised to consider supporting me to pursue graduate studies,” Phuong happily shared.
In particular, the announcement of her passing only made the petite girl happy, not surprised at all, because, for Phuong, a salary of $2,000 has never been out of reach.
The 22-year-old girl is very confident in her achievements during her student life. During her 4 years of studying, she achieved the title of excellent student, won many consecutive semesters of the school's scholarship, and her current cumulative score is 3.72... those achievements make Phuong's profile stand out.
When learning that a female student was being “stoned” just because of the question of how to study to have a starting salary of 2,000 USD, Do Phuong was surprised. She said that experience is not calculated by the number of years after graduation but is accumulated from the time of entering university.
“Moreover, in my opinion, people should not judge based on this salary. Compared to the working environment in Vietnam, this is a high salary, but in fact, in Japan, this is only the average salary of new graduates. What makes me happiest is that I have just graduated and have been able to work at a good company. That's all,” Phuong said modestly.
Phuong affirms that she is not a “hard-core” learner, but only studies seriously. She accumulates professional knowledge every day, even the smallest questions she asks, she goes to the teacher to get answers.
She is also very quick to update recruitment information, trying to grasp every opportunity so that when she graduates, she won't be... alone.
“When interviewing, I always make sure that I have all my achievements listed in my profile, the employer has seen them all, this is the time to be honest. When they asked me if I liked the position of chemical engineer, I frankly said that I had not studied in depth in that field so I did not think I could do it. Perhaps, that honesty impressed them,” Phuong shared.
“I am not a hard-working student”
The second female student to surpass 31 candidates (in the North, including masters and doctors) and catch the eye of the Japanese employer is Nguyen Thi Quy (final year student of Advanced Chemistry, Hanoi University of Science).

According to Quy, in addition to professional knowledge, life skills are something students must diligently practice. |
During the interview, Quy spoke to the recruiter entirely in English and it was her foreign language ability that impressed them.
However, Quy believes that the key factor that helped her get a job with a starting salary of $2,000 was her meticulousness and seriousness.
“I prepared my application very carefully and arrived on time for the interview. They scheduled the interview for 11am but I arrived at 8am because they might need to discuss something first. It was true, they needed to arrange a few things before the interview and only Phuong, I and another friend arrived on time,” Quy shared.
When facing the employer, Quy was also honest in every answer. When asked the question in return, she took the opportunity to show her interest in the company, also to better understand the environment she would be working in if she was accepted.
Quy honestly shared that she was not a “hardworking bee”. Her university years were not as glamorous and brilliant as her high school years, but were even slow and lazy.
However, she knew how to pick herself up and knew what she needed to learn before it was too late.
“I am not a hard worker but I am responsible for each subject, not leaving any gaps in my knowledge. I like to learn and practice research topics and once applied for an internship at the Academy. I know English is very necessary for the future so I always pay attention to practicing it,” Quy said.
According to her, every student after graduating to have a favorite job with a dream salary must clearly identify their passion and pursue it early. They must study hard and proactively seek opportunities for themselves.
“When the opportunity comes, know how to seize it and perform well. That is the most important lesson I learned through this recruitment,” Quy shared.
