On the afternoon of February 10, Nghe An Department of Tourism coordinated with Nghe An Tourism Association to organize a dialogue conference to respond to the nCoV acute respiratory infection epidemic and discuss solutions for tourism development in the province.

Comrades Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Tourism Development of Nghe An Province; Nguyen Manh Cuong - Director of the Department of Tourism; Nguyen Duc Hien - Chairman of the Nghe An Tourism Association chaired the conference. Attending the conference were representatives of departments, branches, airlines, companies and tourist areas in the province.

Number of visitors decreased

Due to the impact of the nCoV acute respiratory infection, tourism companies in Nghe An have encountered many difficulties in business operations such as a decrease in the number of visitors, many tour cancellations, and route cancellations... From February 1, 2020 to February 8, 2020, Nghe An had nearly 100 groups with nearly 7,000 guests canceling their stay at accommodation establishments in the area.

It is expected that in February 2020, the number of tourist accommodation arrivals will only reach about 128,000, with accommodation revenue estimated at 36.8 billion VND, down 60% compared to the same period in 2019. The number of visitors to tourist areas and destinations decreased by 60%; revenue from tourism activities decreased by 70% compared to the plan.

At the dialogue conference, tourism businesses raised difficulties in production, business activities and prevention of nCoV epidemic at present, namely: Lack of masks for tourists and tourism staff; no direction for operations during and after the epidemic...

Tourism businesses have requested the provincial People's Committee to direct a number of contents such as strengthening promotion and advertising at home and abroad in places without the epidemic to attract tourists; improving the quality of tourist services; considering tax reduction and tax deferral for tourism businesses to partially support revenue losses caused by the impact of the nCoV acute respiratory infection.

After listening to opinions and recommendations of businesses, in his concluding remarks, Comrade Bui Dinh Long highly appreciated the initiative to organize a dialogue conference of the Department of Tourism and Nghe An Tourism Association to find solutions to overcome difficulties for businesses; shared difficulties and welcomed the drastic participation in epidemic prevention work of the units.

Comrade Bui Dinh Long stated: The nCoV acute respiratory infection epidemic is still complicated, there is no scientific basis to predict when the epidemic will subside. Therefore, at this time, Nghe An has, is and will continue to prioritize and focus on disease prevention. To effectively prevent the nCoV acute respiratory infection epidemic, the most important thing is to detect the causative factors early. More than anyone else, tourism businesses in the province need to do a good job of monitoring and counting tourists who have traveled through the epidemic area, and promptly report to the Department of Tourism, Department of Foreign Affairs, and Department of Health.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested: Units should well implement the direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Department of Tourism on the prevention of nCoV acute respiratory disease; do a good job of environmental sanitation, spraying disinfectants; disseminate information about the epidemic to tourists and staff; stabilize the organization; carry out human resource training, improve service quality; build a mindset and tourism products to be ready to welcome tourists when the epidemic is over.

Nghe An Tourism Association needs to focus on promoting and advertising tours and destinations in Nghe An. The main content for focused promotion is the image of Nghe An as friendly, civilized, safe and doing a good job in disease prevention. Nghe An Department of Tourism synthesizes recommendations from businesses and submits them to the Provincial People's Committee for research and resolution; develops programs, plans and tourism events to attract tourists immediately after the epidemic ends./.
