(Baonghean.vn) - The program was held on May 14 to honor Nghe An culture and pay tribute to five typical musicians of Nghe An: Nguyen Van Ty, An Thuyen, Hong Dang, Nguyen Tai Tue, and Nguyen Trong Tao.
Before this special performance, Nghe An Newspaper had a conversation with Mr. Le Doan Hop - former member of the Party Central Committee, former Minister of Information and Communications, former Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Nghe An Association in Hanoi, the organizer of the music night.

PV: Sir, what is the source of the Association's plan to organize the program "Source of Vi and Giam"?
Dr. Le Doan Hop:The program is organized first of all to honor the culture of Nghe An. Nghe An has 5 proud cultural values that need to be honored, which are: Nghe Tinh Soviet culture; the source of Vi and Giam folk songs; typical celebrities; the spirit of learning and successful Nghe people living far from home. Therefore, we often find ways to incorporate cultural values into our annual activities. In particular, the program "Vi and Giam source" aims to honor 5 musicians with many contributions and many immortal works, which we have cherished for 2 years to be able to carry out.

There are 5 reasons for organizing this program as follows:
Firstly, to honor Vi and Giam folk songs, an intangible heritage of humanity, the pride of any Nghe people.
Second, our five musicians including Nguyen Van Ty, Hong Dang, An Thuyen, Nguyen Tai Tue, and Nguyen Trong Tao are very talented musicians.
Third, the program also aims to honor the homeland of Nghe An, because Nghe An people not only have the talent to fight off foreign invaders but are also artisans with a rich cultural quintessence.
Fourth, the program is also organized to encourage young musicians, they see the dedication and sacrifice for art of their predecessors and have more creativity, giving birth to many typical works of art. At the same time, they see this honor to have more motivation to compose, work and dedicate.
Fifth, the program is organized to express the heart of Nghe An people. Without the support of Nghe An children, it would be very difficult to have this program.

PV: Why do we name it: "The source of the song, the melody", sir?
Dr. Le Doan Hop:At first we planned to call it “Dong vong song Lam”, then “Dong vong Lam giang”, then changed it to “Tu mach nguon vi giam”, and finally decided on “Mach nguon vi giam”. This name affirms a consistent value that this music night aims to honor songs with the sound of Vi Giam folk songs, which are part of the source that flows throughout the works of these musicians.

However, in addition to the source of Vi Giam, in the treasure trove of famous songs of each musician, there are other sounds. For example, musician An Thuyen has the sound of Northern mountainous folk songs with "Marching to the Northwest",... Hong Dang has many works with the sound of chamber music or light music such as "Hoa Sua", "Bien Hat Chieu Nay"..., Nguyen Van Ty has the sound of Southern folk songs such as "Dang Dung Ben Tre",... Therefore, if we want to honor all the value of their works, 10 nights is not enough. Therefore, we only stick to the main stream, which is the works with the sound of Vi and Giam folk songs, to honor the cultural value of Nghe An through these immortal musical works.
I would also like to add that at a recent press conference, someone asked me, we have another musician, Anh Duong, who composed the very famous song “Hello, Lam Hong girl”, why don’t we pay tribute on this occasion? I replied that it was because the musicians we honored in “Mach nguon vi, giam” were musicians from Nghe An who became famous in Hanoi and had 3 or more songs that won awards and were in the hearts of music listeners. Therefore, we did not include the work of musician Anh Duong in the program, even though he was also a very famous musician of the same period.
PV: The music night held in mid-May must have a special meaning?
Dr. Le Doan Hop:Yes, I thoroughly prepared in time for May, the month of Uncle Ho's birthday, although of these 5 musicians, only two wrote about Uncle Ho, musician Nguyen Tai Tue and musician An Thuyen. This is a meaningful gift that Uncle Ho's hometown people gave to him.
I would also like to say that to have this music night, we had a very elaborate and long preparation process. In addition to choosing a director with good expertise and support from the family, we also had to call for support and assistance from children far from home, especially singers from Nghe An. Choosing the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace was also a success, because this place has a relatively large number of seats, with 1,011 seats enough for guests from Nghe An in Hanoi and some other localities.
It is also necessary to add that in order to get the support of the singers, we also talked to them to agree that, participating in the music night is first of all because of love and responsibility to the homeland, and the heart to the musicians. There are many singers who have become famous from the songs of these musicians, so today's gratitude is also necessary. And it is very valuable that they do not carry out economic contracts with the program's Organizing Committee. That is a success in the context that we had to make a lot of efforts to raise funds for this music night.
PV: So, sir, will our people be able to enjoy the program through TV channels?
Dr. Le Doan Hop:That's right, the program will be broadcast live on 3 channels VTV1, NTV, HTV so that all Nghe people can enjoy it. This program is made for people to watch! I would also like to add that the cultural values in the songs of our 5 talented musicians will be honored and spread more when we have activities aimed at the public. The public must enjoy culture so that cultural values can last and be promoted.
Reporter: The Nghe An Association in Hanoi has had many useful activities to spread the love for the homeland and the affection of the Nghe An people in Hanoi. Can you tell us about some of the Association's activities?
Dr. Le Doan Hop:We have carried out many meaningful cultural programs such as Meeting with Nghe An generals in Hanoi; Meeting with Nghe An intellectuals in Hanoi; Meeting with Nghe An doctors in Hanoi. All of these programs are carried out with the message that Nghe people, wherever they go and whatever they do, always value their emotions and are full of their own unique temperament. Through these programs, the tradition of "many red silks covering the mirror" of Nghe people's children is further enhanced, always looking back to their roots, wanting to bring good values to their homeland.
In addition, we have also mobilized 33.3 billion VND to eliminate 600 temporary, dilapidated and damaged houses in Ky Son area. This coming August, we will have a program to bring books to schools and give bicycles to poor students. Each stage, each time cycle will be a meaningful activity for the children of Nghe An. Hopefully, each program will carry a certain message, aiming to spread more good cultural values to each person in the community.

“The source of Vi and Giam” aims to contribute to portraying the artistic portraits of 5 typical musicians: Nguyen Van Ty, Nguyen Tai Tue, Hong Dang, Nguyen Trong Tao and An Thuyen. These are musicians who have many works that have stood the test of time and have made great contributions to Vietnamese music.
- Musician Nguyen Van Ty is one of the five founders of the Vietnam Musicians Association. He is one of the successful red music musicians with folk music. His music is rich in lyricism with smooth melodies imbued with national identity. A familiar theme in many of his compositions is women with songs such as "Vietnamese Women's Song", "Mother Loves Child", "The Soldier's Shirt Mother Patched in the Past"...
- Musician Hong Dang has left behind more than 1,000 musical works with many songs that are loved by many generations. In particular, most of his most famous songs come from his affinity with movies such as: "Hoa sua" (song in the movie Hanoi in the season of birds making nests); "Lênh trôi" (movie Life of a street singer). Meanwhile, the song "Bien hat chieu nay" was used in many movies related to the sea and islands. In 2001, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts and received the Bui Xuan Phai Award for his love of Hanoi.
- Musician Nguyen Tai Tue came to music from his passion for folk songs and folk songs of his homeland, and then the folk songs of ethnic minorities. He graduated with honors from the Pyongyang National Conservatory of Music (North Korea), and has many famous works such as: "Spring Calls You", "Muong Hum Stream Still Flows Forever", "Singing in the Pac Bo Forest", "Spring Returns to the Village", "Far Offshore"...
- Musician Nguyen Trong Tao left his mark through songs imbued with folk music with images of rivers, ferries, etc. He is loved by the audience, and is likened to "a person coming out of folk songs", "a musician of the Vietnamese countryside". - Musician An Thuyen is one of the musicians who has exploited, applied and developed the musical heritage of Nghe Tinh folk songs in a very skillful and talented way. Most of his famous songs have a sweet and profound folk melody and have a great influence, such as: "I choose this path", "Dem nghe hat do dua nho Bac" (Listening to the boat singing at night), "Neo dau ben que" (Hometown's anchor), "Ca dao em va toi" (Dao dao em va toi), "Ha Tinh minh thuong"...
