The money flows endlessly, like a river.
Artists from the Provincial Traditional Arts Center recently performed a presentation of their 2025 folk art program titled "The Source of Folk Art."
The Song of the Workers
"The source of the wallet, the mile"Recounting everyday stories, the program expresses the loving voices of the hardworking people who toil under the sun and rain behind the bamboo hedges of their villages. Using original folk melodies, adapted melodies, and newly composed tunes, and through diverse forms of expression—performances, courtship singing, singing and dancing—combining folk traditions with the development of music and dance, the program creates a fresh and captivating experience, yet deeply imbued with the cultural heritage of Nghe Tinh folk singing.
“To create this program, we established an art council, which includes composers specializing in various folk music genres, arrangers, and even folk dance choreographers. The program is directed overall by People's Artist Tiến Dũng, with the main criterion being folk music, but in a fresh and engaging way for viewers.”
Musician Quoc Chung - Director of the Provincial Traditional Arts Center
From then on, the center commissioned many works from renowned composers such as Phan Thanh Chương, People's Artists An Ninh, Hoàng Thành, and Tiến Dũng. And a new breath of life was truly breathed into the folk song program.

The program consists of two parts: Part 1, titled "A Picture of the Countryside," has the main theme: Each of us has a place called home, a place deeply etched in our hearts. In the hustle and bustle of life, simply remembering the sunrise in that countryside brings a sense of peace and warmth.
In Part 1, the songs composed and arranged by the authors convey the message that Nghe An province is not only beautiful with its lush green mountains and clear blue waters, and its hardworking people, but also preserves long-standing customs and traditions, creating a unique cultural identity that cannot be confused with many other regions. With that meaning in mind, performances such as:"Sunrise in the Countryside," "Remembering the Sound of the Buffalo's Bell," "The Old Riverbank," "The Taste of Home"It has authentically portrayed a peaceful, warm, and heartwarming picture of the countryside in Nghe An province.
Impressive depiction of a tranquil rural landscape.

In Part 1, the most impressive performance was "Remembering the Sound of the Buffalo's Bell" by composer Phan Thanh Chương. The music of this song is developed from the traditional Vietnamese folk style, featuring a cheerful, witty, and free-spirited rhythm. In the song, the arranger used the sound of a buffalo's bell in the accompaniment, creating a simple and familiar sound.
Composer Phan Thanh Chương said: "The sound of buffalo bells evokes memories of childhood, the clacking and jingling echoing from the vast rice fields, into the familiar village roads shaded by green bamboo, or resounding on the hillsides as the sun sets. The clacking of buffalo bells is simple yet incredibly dear, deeply ingrained in the minds of children born and raised in the countryside."
From that meaning, I wrote "Remember the sound of the buffalo bell."Deeply rooted in the rural culture of Nghe An." This song served as the highlight of Part 1, exciting viewers by immersing them in the cheerful rhythms and childhood memories of the people of Nghe An. Especially with its creative staging and vibrant scenery, the performance was truly memorable.Remember the sound of the buffalo bell.It truly won the hearts of a large audience.

Part 2, titled "Vi and Giam Folk Songs Fly Far Away," conveys the following message: Through many historical and life-changing events, the Kinh people migrated to the mountains to clear land, establish settlements, and live alongside ethnic minority groups. Many folk song clubs were established, and the Mong, Thai, Tho, Kho Mu, and O Du people all knew how to sing these folk songs. Many songs performed in Part 2 successfully conveyed the message that these folk songs have flown far and wide, remaining in the labor and daily lives of people throughout the country.

The highlight of this Part 2 is “"Hạn Khuống"With its lively call-and-response style of courtship between young men and women, the music in this song is a fusion of the folk songs and dances of the Thai ethnic group in Nghe An. According to musician Quoc Chung, "Han Khuong" is one of the traditional festivals of the Thai ethnic group that has existed for a very long time, a playground specifically for young men and women to sing and court each other."Hạn Khuống"It is a performance that blends and intertwines the cultural identities of the Kinh and Thai people, creating a unique experience."Hạn Khuống"They received endless applause for the unexpected romantic encounter between the Thai girl and the folk singer.

The second segment that made the show so appealing was "Village festivalThe performance utilizes folk song suites (both original and adapted versions) that have been newly composed to suit the rhythm and lively, joyful atmosphere of the festival. In the life and cultural identity of the Vietnamese people (in general), and the people of Nghe An (in particular), village festivals hold an extremely important position and role, serving as a place to preserve and transmit traditional labor cultural values to generations of descendants.
Village festivals are places where young men and women meet and find love, where love blossoms and bears fruit. And “Village festival"This performance showcased the excitement and joy of the people of Nghe An, and the music and staging demonstrated the significant investment made by the Board of Directors of the Provincial Traditional Arts Center."
People's Artist Tiến Dũng, the scriptwriter and director of the program, said: "The program has selected many interconnected performances that are both in keeping with the folk spirit and convey the rhythm of modern life today. In addition, the appropriate scenery, the lively and cheerful melodies, and the harmonious blend of old and new content have created a sharp and attractive whole. Performances such as...""The taste of home"or “Remember the sound of buffalo bells, "Hạn Khuống"We can see a picture of the countryside, the spirit of the people of Nghe An in the past, but we also encounter it in the rhythm of life today.
