Expert: US sees recognition of Crimea as part of Russia as improving its position
Experts say that the US considers recognizing Crimea as an improvement of its position.

According to RIA Novosti, Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the Institute of International Political and Humanitarian Studies, believes that the US is considering the issue of recognizing Crimea as Russian as an improvement in its position. But if Washington "goes too far" to make concessions to Russia by offering to recognize other territories, it will be a misunderstanding of the White House team.
The Washington Post quoted a source as saying that at a meeting on resolving the Ukraine conflict, taking place on April 23 in London, the US will propose that European countries and Ukraine recognize Crimea as belonging to Russia, while Kiev's allies hope to receive security guarantees for Ukraine in exchange for concessions.
"The US sees this issue as a way to improve its own position. If Washington leans too much towards Russia, this will be misunderstood even within the White House group. Therefore, the US does not even discuss the territorial issue much. In order for the US to discuss this issue, it is necessary to show where it is beneficial for them," Bruter told RIA Novosti.
Answering the question about why the US does not propose recognizing other Russian territories, the expert noted that the European Union will never agree to this.
“First of all, the West will never do this, because they are also against Crimea. Second, Ukraine will never accept this,” Mr. Bruter added.
Earlier, on April 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that negotiations in London on Ukraine with the participation of representatives of the Ukrainian government, as well as the US, France and UK, would take place on April 23.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on April 18 that he hopes that "more concrete" answers on resolving the conflict in Ukraine will be reached at the next meeting with European and Kiev officials in London.
The New York Post, citing a senior US administration official, reported on April 19 that Western countries intend to agree on the parameters of a proposed ceasefire in Ukraine at a meeting in London.
