US Attorney General nominee calls goal of separating Crimea from Russia impossible
Congressman Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Attorney General, said Ukraine's goal of "separating Crimea from Russia" is unattainable.

According to RIA Novosti on November 14, Congressman Matt Gaetz - President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Attorney General, said that Ukraine's goal of "separating Crimea from Russia" is unattainable. Meanwhile, Ms. Tulsi Gabbard - nominated for the position of Director of National Intelligence, said that the US under the leadership of the Democratic Party is conducting a proxy war with Russia.
Previously, at a House Committee hearing with Pentagon officials in April 2024, Congressman Gaetz raised the topic of Crimea.
Mr. Gaetz asked the Pentagon chief's aide what conditions the Democratic administration sees for Russia's so-called “strategic defeat” and whether it is necessary to “exclude Crimea from Russia.”
Rep. Gaetz said the peninsula will not always be part of Russia and that if the goal is to separate from Russia, it is “unattainable.”
Rep. Gaetz has repeatedly spoken out against the Democrats' plan to "fund Ukraine forever" and warned opponents of the risk of World War III due to the US stance on the use of US weapons in the conflict in Ukraine. And in 2022, when President Zelensky addressed the US Congress, Rep. Gaetz refused to stand and applaud.
Mr. Trump emphasized that Congressman Gaetz will end the "weaponization of government" and restore the severely damaged trust of Americans in the Department of Justice.
Meanwhile, Republicans and Democrats immediately expressed doubts about Mr. Gaetz's ability to be confirmed in the Senate. Senator Thom Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said "there is a lot of disagreement" between senators and Mr. Gaetz. Many opinions consider Matt Gaetz one of President-elect Trump's most controversial nominations.
For her part, Ms. Gabbard declared in July 2023 that President Joe Biden's policies were pushing the United States to the brink of nuclear conflict, and that the "proxy war with Russia" continued to escalate.
