American professor shares 3 things to keep in mind to have a healthy breakfast, anti-aging, increase longevity.

Professor Valter Longo is the Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California (USA), who developed the "vegan combined with fish" longevity diet. That diet is rich in beans, whole grains, nuts, and relatively low in protein. Professor Longo based his principles on research on long-lived people around the world.

In addition, people who apply the above longevity diet also have periods of intermittent fasting and walk a lot, similar to the habits of 100-year-olds with active lifestyles.

Here is Professor Longo's advice shared onInsideron how to prepare a nutritious breakfast to help improve longevity.

Eat a breakfast with a variety of food groups

First of all, “you have to eat breakfast,” the American professor said. A healthy breakfast includes whole grains, nuts, and fruit. Professor Longo himself enjoys friselle, an Italian-style whole-wheat bread spread with almond butter, cocoa, and an apple.

Nutritionist Allison Childress says almond butter is one of the best nut butters because it contains vitamins and minerals like vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium. Just avoid the sugary kind.

Love what you eat

You shouldn't pressure yourself into eating something you don't like just because it's good. Whatever you eat should "be a version of what you like based on the general rules" of a longevity diet, advises Professor Longo. People don't have to eat like the experts.

Nutritionist Danielle Smith also says there’s no point in forcing yourself to eat something you don’t like. This will make it harder to maintain a healthy diet. She advises that you’re better off “focusing on other nutrient-dense foods” that you enjoy.

Don't be afraid to change for more nutrition

Professor Longo changed his breakfast to get more nutrients without sacrificing taste.

He makes his morning tea with both green and black tea. He reasons that “green tea is not as good as black tea,” but he gets the nutritional benefits from green tea. Green tea has been linked to better brain and heart function, lower cholesterol, improved bone strength, and anti-aging effects on the skin.
