Love helps Mr. and Mrs. Bush overcome illness
Doctors Amy Mynderse and Clint Doerr work at the HospitalHouston has just announced that former President Bush is about to be moved from the intensive care unit to a regular patient room and his wife, Barbara, despite being discharged from the hospital after a serious illness, still wants to stay with her husband.

“They had a strong love for each other and their love story was heard throughout the hospital. As I said, the former First Lady tried to be with her husband 24/7,” said Dr. Mynderse. “In addition to sleeping in separate rooms, Barbara almost always sat near her husband’s bedside.”
“They are like ‘medicine for each other’, always helping us to encourage and motivate each other. When one of them says they don’t want to do respiratory treatment, the other will urge them to do it. This helps us a lot,” added Dr. Doerr.
Doctors said that both of them are in good spirits and that Mr. Bush will likely be discharged from the hospital on February 5 and the family can have a party together. “When she is not there, he is always looking forward to it. When she cannot come down to see him [when Mrs. Barbara is still being treated for her illness], she is always urging us: ‘Hurry up, give me antibiotics so I can go [to Mr. Bush],” said Dr. Mynderse.
Both doctors were impressed by the Bushes' simplicity, sincerity and generosity. Dr. Mynderse said that Mr. Bush was even surprised when she told him that she would be holding a press conference about his health.
“Mr. Bush doesn't understand how much he is loved, and neither does Mrs. Bush,” Dr. Mynderse added. “They are very grateful for the affection that the American people have shown them, and they feel a little embarrassed and surprised by the affection that the American people have shown them.”
The fire is quiet but persistent
“They never wanted to cause us any trouble, let alone be unreasonable,” said Dr. Doerr. According to Ms. Doerr, Mr. Bush suffers from Parkinson’s disease and cannot move his lower body, so he uses a wheelchair.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mynderse said, Mr. Bush's condition was sometimes so severe that he had to breathe through a breathing tube. However, Mr. Bush "showed no signs of a 92-year-old."
Even with a breathing tube inserted into his lungs, Mr. Bush gave the medical team in the intensive care unit a thumbs-up to signal that he was fine, Ms. Doerr recalled.
According to Dr. Mynderse, Mr. Bush is now only on a limited oxygen ventilator and is often seen joking with the doctors and nurses in the hospital. He even sits up to watch TV while waiting for his favorite oyster lunch. However, he still has a frequent cough and doctors are actively trying to treat him.
Dr. Mynderse said that when treating patients aged 80-90, they need to be very careful when adjusting the regimen and always keep in mind that their health is not the same as when they were middle-aged.
Doctors at the HospitalHouston said that Mr. Bush did not comment on Donald Trump's inauguration, but like many fathers, he was very proud and even pointed to the TV screen when his son appeared at the event.
President and CEO of the HospitalHouston Marc L. Boom said he was honored to treat both former President and former First Lady Bush. The staff at the hospital also respected Mr. and Mrs. Bush./.
