Nghe An girl and the precious goal that brought Vietnam women's team closer to the 2020 Olympics
(Baonghean.vn) - Besides midfielder Thai Thi Thao - a girl from Nghe An who won the 2019 AFF Cup and SEA Games 30 with the Vietnamese women's team, Vietnamese women's football continues to witness another young talent from Nghe An, Ngan Thi Van Su.
On February 6, the Vietnam team met Myanmar in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers. This was a match that saw a new face - Ngan Thi Van Su in the starting lineup. Coach Mai Duc Chung's players encountered the opponent's proactive defense, so all opportunities were missed.
In the first half, the 1m52 tall girl had a chance to score but her shot went over the crossbar. In the 61st minute, from a pass from Bich Thuy on the left wing, Van Su jumped high to head the ball, scoring the only goal of the match. This was a valuable goal that helped the Vietnamese women's team win 1-0 and open up the opportunity to go to the play-off round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

It was only through this match that the name Van Su was mentioned a lot. Ngan Thi Van Su was born in 2001 in Thanh Chuong, Nghe An and is also a fellow Nghe An native of midfielder Thai Thi Thao. She started her football career with the Hanoi U14 team.
Just a few years after joining the Hanoi U16 team, Van Su was promoted to the Hanoi women's first team by Phung Thi Minh Nguyet. At the age of 16, not many players have such privileges. Despite her small stature, Van Su shows the qualities of a quick, aggressive striker with the ability to accelerate.

In fact, the name Ngan Thi Van Su has been famous in the Vietnamese women's football world since previous years. For two consecutive years, the Nghe An girl was voted the best player of the National U19 tournament. Last year, Van Su won the runner-up position in the National Women's Championship with Hanoi Club, participated in the U19 Asian Cup Finals and was one of the pillars.
Not only that, Van Su was also called to the Vietnam Women's Team to train in Japan in preparation for the 30th SEA Games. Although she was not able to participate in the tournament where the Vietnam Women's Team won, thanks to her remarkable progress, she entered the Top 3 nominees for the Best Young Female Player of the 2019 Vietnam Golden Ball.

Speaking after the match, Van Su shared: “I am very happy because it is the first time I played in the official lineup for the national team and scored a goal. The whole match, my sisters and I tried very hard. Nothing can describe my happiness right now. I am very happy. If Vietnam had been confident, we could have scored many goals.”
Originally a striker, but in the first time coach Mai Duc Chung gave her the opportunity to play as a midfielder, Ngan Thi Van Su made a great contribution. If the Vietnamese women's team wins a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the name Van Su will surely be imprinted in the minds of Vietnamese fans.
With the victory over Myanmar and officially winning a ticket to the Olympic play-off round, the women's team was awarded 400 million VND by the Vietnam Football Federation and the Head of the Women's Football Department was awarded 500 million VND.
