Opportunity for Vietnam team to end the streak of draws and losses
In the last 5 matches, the Vietnamese team has drawn and lost all. The match against Cambodia on September 5 will be an opportunity for coach Mai Duc Chung and his team to find a victory to end the above-mentioned streak.
Vietnam lost 1-2 to Indonesia in the first leg of the AFF Cup 2016 semi-finals and drew in the second leg. After that, the team drew 3 consecutive matches against Chinese Taipei (Friendly), Afghanistan and Jordan in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers.

The Vietnamese team has not known victory in the last 5 matches. |
The upcoming meeting with Cambodia on September 5 is a good opportunity for Vietnam to win. The history of confrontations between the two neighboring countries shows that Vietnam has won all 5 times. Of which, Vietnam's 2-1 victory over Cambodia at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 was the most recent result.
However, the aforementioned winless streak is not too long in the history of the Vietnamese team. During the period 2004 - 2006, the team had 7 winless matches. In particular, from mid-2007 to before the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008, under the leadership of two coaches Alfred Riedl and Henrique Calisto, the Vietnamese team had reached the milestone of 14 matches without knowing the taste of victory, including 9 losses at the 2017 Asian Cup, the 2010 World Cup qualifiers and some friendly matches.
The upcoming match against Cambodia is also an opportunity for the Vietnamese strikers to find their scoring touch again. The biggest hope is still placed on captain Nguyen Van Quyet, who has scored 11 goals in 47 matches for the national team.
Meanwhile, Cong Phuong, despite scoring 4 goals at SEA Games 29, is the player with the best scoring form for the team at the moment. Facing Cambodia, Phuong is expected to score his first goal for the Vietnamese team in an official tournament.
The Vietnamese team is ranked 3rd in Group C, the final qualifying round of the 2019 Asian Cup. They have 2 points, scoring only 1 goal by Nguyen Van Toan.
On September 5, the Cambodian team will host the Vietnamese team at the Olympic Stadium, capital Phnom Penh.
