At the age of 51, Vu Van Dang is a drug addict with 3 previous convictions and 26 years in prison. However, less than a year after being released from prison for the third time, Dang planned a new mission, and this was also the final mission that ended the series of crimes committed by Dang and his accomplices, proving the endless slide of a drug "boss".

The Final Journey

Vu Van Dang (born in 1974), residing in Chau Son village, Chau Khe commune, Con Cuong district, is a man with a past full of drug-related crimes. Dang is called "boss" because he has been convicted many times for drug-related crimes: In 1997 (when Dang was only 23 years old), Dang was sentenced by the People's Court of Nghe An province to 7 years in prison for "Illegal transportation of narcotics" and was pardoned in 2000; in 2008, he was sentenced by the People's Court of Vinh city, Nghe An province to 9 years in prison for "Illegal possession of narcotics" and completed his prison sentence in 2013; In 2016, he was sentenced by the People's Court of Quang Binh province to 10 years in prison for "illegally buying and selling drugs" and completed his prison sentence in 2022. It is true that after being in prison, released from prison, and having been punished by the law many times, Vu Van Dang still did not learn his lesson, but continued to sink deeper into the path of crime.

According to the indictment, on September 8, 2023, Vu Van Dang contacted a man named So Ly to order 4 bags of Methamphetamine for 100 million VND, intending to sell for profit. Dang agreed to pay 50 million VND in advance and would pay the remaining amount upon receipt of the goods. On September 14, 2023, Dang called Luong Van Hung (born in 1979), residing in Khe Nan village, Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district, inviting Hung to go with him to receive the drugs, promising to give Hung some spending money.

At 5 p.m. the same day, Dang drove a motorbike to pick up Hung, then the two went to the mountainous area of Canh village, Ta Ca commune. Here, Dang gave Hung 50 million VND, instructed Hung to hide the money in the bushes near the drainage, then someone would come to collect the money and leave the drugs. After that, Dang returned to Muong Xen town to wait.

Hung followed the Party's instructions. About 45 minutes later, someone came to collect the money and left two packages of drugs: one package weighing 2,252.09 grams and one package weighing 15.36 grams. Hung checked, took the 15.36 gram package of drugs and put it in his pocket to use without informing the Party, then called the Party to come pick him up. When the Party arrived, Hung gave the 2,252.09 gram package of drugs to the Party to put in his backpack to carry.

On the way back, about 200 meters from Hung’s house, Hung stopped his motorbike and took the drugs from his pocket and hid them in the water tank behind his house. Dang continued driving his motorbike on Highway 7, carrying a backpack containing 2,252.09 grams of drugs. When he arrived at Chau Khe commune, Con Cuong district, Dang was discovered and caught red-handed by the authorities.

Final words in court

At the mobile court in Chau Quang commune, Quy Hop district at the end of June 2024, the Trial Council sentenced Vu Van Dang to death for “Illegal drug trafficking”. Luong Van Hung was sentenced to life in prison for “Illegal drug trafficking” and 7 years in prison for “Illegal drug possession”, the total sentence is life in prison.

When Judge Tran Quoc Cuong, the presiding judge of the trial, allowed Vu Van Dang, 50 years old, with a thin body due to heavy addiction, did not ask for a lighter sentence. Instead, Dang sadly shared: “I do not ask for a lighter sentence. I just hope that everyone will not follow in my footsteps. Drugs not only ruined my life but also caused suffering to my family, wife, 3 children and those around me. Don't wait until you receive a death sentence like me to regret it.”

The case of Vu Van Dang and Luong Van Hung is the price to pay for those who have a criminal past, refuse to repent and continue to sink deeper into the path of sin. Dang's last words in court are like a painful warning, hoping to awaken many people, so that no one has to pay a heavy price, no one has to receive a tragic ending like Vu Van Dang.
