"Cambodia is a multi-party democracy. The constitution stipulates that we will hold elections every five years," Hun Manet told ABC's The World program. "So the Cambodian people will decide who and when they will be the leader."
When asked about the possibility of succeeding Prime Minister Hun Sen, Mr. Hun Manet replied "maybe not, maybe yes". Hun Manet said he had no preparation for the ability to lead Cambodia.
"In fact, our father emphasized many times that he did not want his children to pursue a political career," Hun Manet said.
However, Hun Manet is still involved in politics. He is currently a lieutenant general in the Cambodian armed forces. He explained this "entirely on humanitarian grounds", wanting to contribute to society, meeting the needs of the people.
