Obama's schedule in Vietnam announced
US Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes revealed President Barack Obama's work schedule in Vietnam at a press conference on the morning of May 20 (Vietnam time).
According to Mr. Ben Rhodes, Mr. Obama will arrive at Noi Bai airport on the night of May 22 and the official working program will begin in Hanoi one day later.
After the official welcoming ceremony, President Obama will have bilateral talks with President Tran Dai Quang and the two sides will hold a press conference afterwards.
Next, President Obama will meet with the new Chairwoman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Later that day, Mr. Obama will attend a reception before having bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The meeting between President Obama and Vietnamese leaders focused on areas such as economic and trade cooperation, regional security issues, maritime security, disaster response, people-to-people exchange, educational cooperation, etc.
On May 24, Mr. Obama will give a speech on Vietnam-US relations at the National Convention Center, with the participation of hundreds of students.
Next, Mr. Obama left Hanoi for Ho Chi Minh City.
In Ho Chi Minh City, he is expected to visit Ngoc Hoang Pagoda (Mai Thi Luu Street, District 1) to show his admiration for Vietnam's traditional culture. After that, Mr. Obama will meet with Vietnamese business people with the focus of discussion being the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).
On May 25, Mr. Obama will meet with members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) at GEM Center, District 1.
Immediately after this meeting, Mr. Obama will go to the airport to travel to Japan to attend the G7 Summit.
