Korean community in Vietnam actively contributes to bilateral relations

Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Oh Young-ju said that Korea hopes that the upcoming visit of the President will open up opportunities for cooperation in many fields between the two countries, especially building a cooperation framework on mineral supply chains and other fields.

Opinions at the meeting also said that people-to-people exchanges were also very active; in which, the role of the Vietnam - Korea Friendship Association and the Korea - Vietnam Friendship Association stood out.

Representatives of the organizations hope that in the coming time, the President and relevant agencies will always pay attention to and support the activities of the Korean community in Vietnam; contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam, and create more favorable conditions for Korean enterprises to do business and invest in Vietnam.

Expressing his joy when meeting the Ambassador and representatives of Korean organizations living, studying and working in Vietnam, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the important role of Korean associations in Vietnam such as the Korean Association in Hanoi, the Korean Business Association in Vietnam, the Korean Small and Medium Enterprises Association in Vietnam, etc. in supporting Koreans to stabilize their lives, comply with Vietnamese laws, and deepen the friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

The President affirmed that the Vietnamese government always cares about and protects legitimate rights and creates favorable conditions for the Korean community to feel secure living, working and studying in Vietnam.

The President was pleased that the Korean community in Vietnam is living and working stably, has a happy life, and is successful in business, contributing to promoting the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The President believes that with the joint efforts of the Governments and people of the two countries, especially the active contributions of diplomatic agencies, businesses, and the Korean community in Vietnam, the two countries will increasingly have more investment projects and new trade cooperation opportunities in the fields of economics, investment, tourism, culture, education, and people-to-people exchange.

However, the President also noted that organizations, associations and businesses of the two countries need to engage in substantive and in-depth cooperation, not only in scale but also in quality, to contribute to and strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership. In particular, in business cooperation, it is necessary to promote the factors of sincerity, mutual benefit, and anti-corruption and negativity.

According to statistics from the Korean Immigration Department, the Vietnamese community in Korea currently has more than 216,000 Vietnamese people.

Notably, Korea also has a community of more than 180,000 overseas Vietnamese in Vietnam, most of whom are businessmen. The two sides regularly organize friendly exchange activities in each country, contributing to enhancing understanding and trust between the people of the two countries.

Currently, most of our provinces, cities and localities have signed cooperation agreements with many Korean localities, organizations and enterprises. Korean investors are present in 59 localities, most concentrated in Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Dong Nai, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen and Ho Chi Minh City.
