International community reacts after failed coup attempt by Bolivian military general
Bolivian television showed the general being escorted by police out of the General Staff building.

TASS news agency reported on June 27 that Bolivian television had previously reported that General Juan Jose Zuniga, the leader of a failed coup in the country, had been arrested.
Local television channels broadcast images of the general leaving the General Staff building escorted by police.
Before getting into the police car, the general tried to share his view of the situation with journalists. According to the general, he had spoken to President Luis Arce on June 23 and the head of state had offered to help him improve his reputation.
On June 26, a group of Bolivian troops led by General Juan Jose Zuniga, who was removed as army commander-in-chief on June 25, occupied the square in front of the government building in the Bolivian capital La Paz.
According to TASS, President Arce denounced their actions as an attempted coup and was sworn in as commander of the armed forces. The new commander-in-chief, Jose Wilson Sanchez, ordered all troops to return to their barracks. The troops soon left the square.
