(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 23, Nghe An General Hospital held a ceremony to announce and present the decision to recognize Nghe An General Hospital as a medical facility qualified to perform kidney removal and transplant techniques from living donors and brain-dead donors.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Duong Dinh Chinh - Director of Nghe An Department of Health.

Nghe An General Hospitalis the final hospital in the province. Every year, more than 1,700 patients with chronic kidney failure are examined and treated at the hospital, many of whom are in the final stage of the disease and require dialysis, with an average of more than 21,000 dialysis sessions per year.

Cases requiring regular dialysis not only greatly affect the health and life expectancy of patients but also cause economic losses to patients as well as the state budget.

The need for kidney transplantation in patients with end-stage chronic renal failure treated atNghe An General Hospitalis very large. Realizing the importance of implementing kidney transplant techniques, on September 21, 2015, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision 4211/UBND on promulgating the project "Building and developing high-tech healthcare to make Vinh city a medical center in the North Central region in the period of 2015 - 2020" and has prioritized the implementation of organ transplant techniques inNghe An General Hospital.

Since 2015, Nghe An Provincial General Hospital has actively implemented human resource training programs, renovated infrastructure, and equipment to serve the implementation of kidney transplant techniques.

July 2019,Nghe An General Hospitalcoordinated with Viet Duc Hospital to implement a training program and transfer kidney transplant techniques to 23 staff. After more than 3 months of training, the staff were fully certified to perform kidney transplant techniques.

On July 19, 2020, the Ministry of Health's professional council conducted a technical assessment of kidney collection and transplantation from living and brain-dead donors at Nghe An General Hospital.

On September 16, 2020, the Ministry of Health issued a decision recognizing Nghe An General Hospital as a qualified facility to perform kidney retrieval and transplantation from living donors and brain-dead donors.

After being recognized by the Ministry of Health as a qualified facility to receive and transplant kidneys from living donors and brain-dead donors, on October 6, the Hospital coordinated with Viet Duc Hospital to select a special pair of kidney donors and transplant recipients. The kidney donor was Mr. Phan Van H and the kidney recipient was Mr. Phan Van N (31 years old, Dien Van commune, Dien Chau district) - identical twin brother of Mr. H.

During the follow-up process, the kidney donor and the post-operative kidney transplant were stable. After 7 days, the kidney donor was stable and discharged from the hospital. The kidney recipient was monitored for treatment after 14 days. His health and paraclinical tests were stable and the patient was discharged from the hospital.
