"My idol", Nattapon Soomtha, was delighted with Cong Phuong's missed shot in the 90th minute of the match against Thailand on September 5. The striker born in 1995 had a breakthrough but missed the ball.
Narongchai Sathanderm, another Thai fan, chimed in: "He learned this skill in Sint-Truiden, right? The pride of Southeast Asia." Napat Yomanat simply dropped a laughing emoji at Cong Phuong's photo.
Coach Park Hang-seo brought Cong Phuong on to replace Tien Linh in the second half. The striker, who is playing in the Belgian championship, coordinated well with Van Toan and Quang Hai, moving widely to look for opportunities. His most notable move came at the end of the match but he was unable to capitalize on it.

Park Hang-seo's team faced many difficulties when facing Thailand on September 5. The home team had more possession (more than 60% of the time) and had twice as many shots (13 compared to 7). However, Vietnam still played with concentration and did not let the opponent score. One point earned away from home in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers is considered a success for the Vietnamese team.
