Cong Phuong is on the bench, Incheon United draws thanks to VAR
In the match where Cong Phuong sat for the entire 90 minutes, Incheon United had to rely on VAR technology to get a 1-1 draw against Jeju United at home.
K-League 2019 has kicked off. Vietnamese fans are looking forward to Incheon United's opening match when they host Jeju United at home. It's understandable because this is the team that has Vietnamese striker Nguyen Cong Phuong.
Having scored in a recent friendly match, fans hoped that the Vietnamese player would be in the starting lineup of Incheon United. But that expectation did not come true.
In this match, coach Jorn Andersen used all 3 substitutions. However, Cong Phuong was not allowed to enter the field even though the player on loan from HAGL was asked to warm up right from the beginning of the first half.
Incheon United starting lineup
Regarding the match, Jeju United was the better team in the first half. In the 35th minute, Lee Chang Min had a beautiful long-range shot, putting the away team ahead.
Despite being at a disadvantage in the second half, Incheon United surprisingly equalized 1-1 in the 60th minute after Mugosa successfully converted a penalty. In this situation, Incheon United had to rely on VAR technology to be awarded a penalty.
Accordingly, a Jeju player let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area but the referee did not see it and even though the Incheon United player signaled, the main referee still let the match continue.
After about 1 minute, the main referee received advice from the VAR team and decided to review the situation. Finally, the referee awarded Incheon United a penalty. In the end, the two teams drew 1-1.
