A Chinese real estate group hosted a party for 15,000 villagers in Guangzhou to celebrate their move into their new homes.

15,000 residents of Yangji Village, east of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, were invited to a banquet by a real estate company on October 2 to celebrate receiving new homes in an apartment complex, according to SCMP. |
 |
Yangji Village, located near the upscale Pearl River Township, was included in the Guangzhou City Urban Redevelopment Project in 2009. However, it took years for the government to convince residents to relocate and allow the demolition of 1,496 houses, with compensation of one apartment after construction was completed. Demolition began in 2010. |

Based on current real estate market prices in Guangzhou, each household owns an apartment worth 10 million yuan ($1.5 million). To mark the completion of the project and to welcome residents who are about to move into their new homes, the real estate group held a 1,500-table dinner at an intersection in the new neighborhood. |
 |
The government and real estate company spent several million yuan (1 million yuan is 150,000 USD) to organize the party. Attendees had to go through security checks. |

6 kitchens were built on site. |

600 people participated in cooking and preparation from 6am. |

Thousands of people dined together, while orange-clad waiters pushed carts to deliver food. Two years ago, a similar banquet with more than 2,000 people was held in Henan province. In Chongqing, a New Year’s Eve party was held with a crowd that stretched for more than a kilometer. |
