On the morning of March 21, an incident occurred at Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch (located in Nam Cam Industrial Park).collective work stoppage

Accordingly, the collective work stoppage took place at 8:30 a.m. on March 21, right after the start of the morning shift, with the participation of 72 workers out of a total of 140 employees of Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch.

Immediately after the incident, the Management Board of the Southeast Economic Zone and the Trade Union of the Southeast Economic Zone were present to promptly advise and resolve the matter.

After collecting petitions from workers, the working group collected 5 groups of petitions. Specifically, workers requested the company to increase the basic salary from 4,410,000 VND to 4,950,000 VND and increase the attendance allowance from 200,000 VND/month to 300,000 VND/month.

In addition, the company is currently applying a policy of deducting 300,000 VND for each error. However, workers believe that these errors are due to the company forcing the production process to be fast, so the workers make them.

In addition, workers requested that the company not require too much overtime (currently overtime is 4-5 hours/day) and that the company not fire workers unreasonably when orders decrease.

The Trade Union of the Southeast Economic Zone, the Management Board of the Southeast Economic Zone, the Economic Security Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, and Nghi Xa Commune Police have requested the company to organize a dialogue session to answer workers.

At the meeting, the company's production manager reported that he had asked for the opinion of the employer (currently in China) and scheduled a response to the workers' petition on March 24, 2025. In the meantime, the company asked the 72 workers to return to work as usual.

However, by early afternoon, workers continued to stop work and gathered in the company's parking lot. At 3:00 p.m. the same day, the company announced that it had agreed to increase the basic salary from VND4,410,000 to VND4,710,000.

To quickly stabilize the situation, the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union requested the Company to notify workers about the salary increase and how to resolve the remaining four petitions.

Late in the afternoon of March 21, the company representative announced to the workers: From April, the company will increase the basic salary to 4,950,000 VND/month.

This morning, March 22, according to records, all workers of Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch have returned to work as usual.

Sharing about the incident, Ms. Tran Thi Nguyet - Vice President of the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union shared: “The collective work stoppage at Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch was predictable. Previously, on February 28, many employees of the company sent a petition to increase wages to the company's leaders when they saw that neighboring businesses had increased wages for workers. However, instead of clearly responding to the company, the company's leaders remained silent, did not talk and locked the messaging function in the company's Zalo group."

Also according to Ms. Nguyet, during the supervision of the implementation of the law on occupational safety and hygiene at Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch in March 2024, the Dong Nam Economic Zone Trade Union and the Dong Nam Economic Zone Management Board soon pointed out many shortcomings of this company because it did not strictly comply with the Labor Law, the Law on Social Insurance, and the Law on Occupational Safety and Hygiene.

After the supervision, the working group requested Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch to implement a number of important contents such as complying with the law on labor safety and hygiene; building salary scales and payrolls; signing collective labor agreements; organizing labor conferences and properly implementing regulations on dialogue at the workplace... However, up to now, this enterprise has not yet implemented the recommendations.

According to the representativeTrade UnionIn the Southeast Economic Zone, the limitations and lack of professionalism of this enterprise in labor management are the causes of recurring labor conflicts and collective work stoppages.

Mr. Le Tien Tri - Head of the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board discussed that from this incident, the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board and the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union will require businesses to learn from the incident, strictly comply with legal regulations and build harmonious and stable labor relations. In the coming time, the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board will strengthen inspection of compliance with labor laws at businesses.
