(Baonghean.vn) - It is expected that by 8:00 a.m. on August 26, the water level of Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir will reach the highest water level before the flood of 192.5m. Ban Ve Hydropower Company will operate the reservoir to regulate water through the spillway.

In Notice No. 215/TB-TDBV, dated August 25, 2023, Ban Ve Hydropower Company sent to competent authorities and relevant units on the operation and regulation of water through the spillway of Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir, it clearly stated:

At 8:00 a.m. on August 25, 2023, the water level of Ban Ve Lake was at 192.27 m (0.23 m lower than the highest water level before the flood), the water flow to the lake at the same time was 456 m3/s, the water flow through the generator is 275 m3/S.

According to the forecast bulletin of the North Central Hydrometeorological Station, the average water flow to Ban Ve hydroelectric reservoir in the next 3 days is 380m3/s, it is expected that by 8:00 a.m. on August 26, 2023, the water level of Ban Ve Lake will reach the highest water level before the flood of 192.5m.

Pursuant to Decision No. 1605/QD-TTg dated November 13, 2019 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Procedure for operating inter-reservoirs in the Ca River basin; Decision No. 148/QD-BCT dated February 8, 2022 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on promulgating the Procedure for operating Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir, Ban Ve Hydropower Company respectfully reports to competent authorities and relevant units on the operation and regulation of water through the spillway of Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir as follows:

Spill opening time: 08:00 on August 26, 2023.

Total discharge downstream (including discharge through generator and spillway): From 170 m3/s to 600 m3/s and may vary depending on water flow to the lake.

End of discharge time: When the lake water level is no higher than the highest water level before the flood and is unlikely to rise again.

Recently, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, a major flood occurred in the upstream of the Ban Ve hydroelectric reservoir basin on August 3. The maximum flood peak flow to the reservoir was 2,700m3/s, appeared at 01:15 on August 6, the total flood volume in the lake is estimated at about 800 million mm3Ban Ve Hydropower Plant has cut 100% of the flood peak, Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir has completely accumulated the flood flow, contributing to cutting and reducing floods downstream.

Flood reduction and reduction for downstream areas caused the water level to rise rapidly from 158.8m (3:00 p.m. on August 3) to 192.27m (8:00 a.m. on August 25).

Previously, due to the influence of El Nino, the water flow to Ban Ve reservoir was much lower than the average level of many years; meanwhile, the demand for water supply downstream was very large, so from the beginning of the year, to ensure productivity for the winter-spring crop, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee requested Ban Ve Hydropower Plant to release water 3 times, especially at the end of April, when thousands of hectares of winter-spring rice entered the flowering period and required a large amount of water.

On June 2, 2023, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee continued to direct to serve water supply for people to sow summer-autumn crops, requesting Ban Ve Hydropower Plant to supply water with a flow of 200m3/s in the first 8 days of June.

Ban Ve Hydropower Plant is the largest hydropower project in the North Central region, with a capacity of 320 MW. As a multi-purpose project, in addition to the task of supplying electricity to the national economy, the plant also has the responsibility of supplying water to the downstream during the dry season, cutting and reducing floods during the flood season according to the operating procedures of inter-reservoirs in the Ca River basin. After nearly 13 years of operation, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant has connected to the national grid nearly 13 billion kWh, making an important contribution to the task of ensuring energy security for the country, contributing thousands of billions of VND to the state budget and contributing significantly to the economic - industrial - tourism development of the Western Nghe An region.
