Ban Ve Hydropower Plant actively regulates water, contributing to flood reduction of about 74% for downstream areas.
Facing the risk of flooding due to the impact of storm No. 5, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant plays an important role by proactively reducing discharge, contributing to cutting floods by about 74% for the downstream of Lam River, especially in the old Con Cuong district - where there is prolonged heavy rain.
Due to the impact of storm No. 5, many areas in Nghe An have experienced prolonged heavy rain, especially in the old Con Cuong district - located downstream of Lam River, the flooding situation is becoming complicated.
Faced with this situation, the leaders of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province have directed the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant to continue to adjust the discharge flow through the spillway. As of 11:30 a.m. on August 26, 2025, the amount of water flowing into the lake was 1,513 m3/s. The discharge volume is 388m3/s, of which the discharge through the generator is 340m3/s, spillway discharge is 48m3/s. The reduction in discharge aims to reduce flow pressure downstream, and is estimated to cut flooding by about 74%.

Faced with the direct impact of storm No. 5 causing heavy rain in the upstream area, Ban Ve Hydropower Plant has proactively implemented measures to regulate the reservoir to minimize the risk of flooding in the downstream area.
According to the report at 06:00 on August 26, 2025, the water flow to Ban Ve Lake reached 1,675m³/s, the lake water level was at 191.64m. To ensure the safety of the project and reduce pressure on the downstream, the factory flexibly operated the reservoir with a total discharge flow of 600m³/s, of which 260m³/s was discharged through 4 surface discharge gates, and 340m³/s through the generator set.

Mr. Ta Huu Hung - Director of Ban Ve Hydropower Company said: We have closely monitored the water flow to the reservoir and closely coordinated with the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province to develop a reasonable flood discharge plan. The most important goal is to minimize the risk of flooding in the downstream area, while ensuring the safety of the project and the power system.
Currently, the water flow into the lake is still maintained at a high level, the water in the Con Cuong area and downstream continues to rise. Ban Ve Hydropower Company affirms that it will continue to continuously update the weather and hydrological situation, ready to adjust the operation plan in a timely manner, to minimize damage caused by floods.
