After the match on the night of January 16, the 1/8 round of the 2019 Asian Cup has officially determined the 14 participating teams, while the opportunity for the Vietnamese team to continue is very wide.
Kyrgyzstan became the 14th team to reach the knockout stage after a 3-1 win over the Philippines in the final round of Group C, thanks to a hat-trick from striker Vitalij Lux.
Kyrgyzstan qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams, and their next opponents will be the hosts UAE.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team got their first 3 points after beating the Yemen team 2-0 in the "life and death" match in Group D with goals from Quang Hai and Ngoc Hai. This victory could not help the Vietnamese team get a ticket to the round of 16, but the chance to continue for coach Park Hang-seo's team is very high.
Also in this series of matches, South Korea took the top spot in Group C after defeating China 2-0, while Iran only had a 0-0 draw with Iraq but that was enough for them to take the top spot in Group D.
The 14 teams that have advanced include UAE, Thailand, Bahrain (Group A), Jordan, Australia (B), South Korea, China, Kyrgyzstan (C), Iran, Iraq (D), Qatar, Saudi Arabia (E), Uzbekistan and Japan (F).

Entering the Italian Super Cup final against AC Milan, Juventus took the initiative to attack from the first minutes. However, it was not until the 61st minute that Juve broke the deadlock when Ronaldo successfully broke the offside trap, heading the ball into the AC Milan net from a cross from midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
In the remaining minutes, AC Milan poured forward to attack in the hope of finding an equalizer. However, Franck Kessie's red card in the 74th minute caused the home team at Giuseppe Meazza to fail in their comeback.
Winning 1-0, Juve lifted the Italian Super Cup for the first time since 2015. This is also the 8th time Juve has won this title in history. As for Ronaldo, he has his first title in a Juve shirt and the 27th of his career.
Kicking Atletico Madrid out of the King's Cup, Girona made a surprise

The shock has come in the Spanish King's Cup. In the second leg of the round of 16 this morning, Girona surprisingly knocked Atletico Madrid out of the tournament with a 3-3 draw. Atletico had a favorable start with Nikola Kalinic's opening goal.
However, Valery Fernandez and Cristhian Stuani put Girona back in front 2-1. Hope was rekindled for Atletico when Correa equalized in the 66th minute to make it 2-2. It seemed Atletico would win thanks to Griezmann's goal in the 84th minute to make it 3-2.
But with just 2 minutes left to end the match, Seydou Doumbia tore the home team's net to equalize 3-3. This result, along with the 1-1 draw in the first leg, helped Girona qualify for the next round thanks to the away goals rule.
Real into the quarter-finals of the King's Cup
With a 3-0 lead from the first leg, Real did not use their strongest lineup in the rematch at Legames. This was part of the reason why the home team dominated and scored in the first half. In the 30th minute, from a chaotic situation right in front of the 5m50 area, Martin Braithwaite scored the opening goal.

Regaining control after conceding a goal, Real lacked sharpness in finishing. Despite losing the second leg, Real are still one of five teams to have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the King's Cup after Getafe, Valencia, Girona and Sevilla. Atletico, Real's city rivals, were surprisingly eliminated after losing to Girona on away goals (4-4 draw).
On the evening of January 17, Barca will play the second leg of the round of 16 against Levante. If they cannot reverse the 1-2 defeat in the first leg, the Catalan giants will have to say goodbye to the tournament.
Chelsea complete Gonzalo Higuain deal
British and Italian media simultaneously reported that Chelsea had reached an agreement to loan Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus. Specifically, Chelsea will borrow the Argentine striker from now until the end of the season with a buyout clause. Chelsea can extend Higuain's loan for another season if they want according to the agreement reached. "The Blues" will be responsible for paying Higuain's current salary. Higuain is currently playing for AC Milan on loan from Juve but wants to leave Serie A to reunite with his old teacher Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.
Revealing the special terms MU signed with Mourinho
In mid-December 2018, MU decided to fire coach Jose Mourinho after the team's consecutive poor results. With the unilateral termination of the contract, MU had to compensate Mourinho 18 million pounds. Of course, this compensation comes with some special conditions. According to ESPN, Mourinho had to commit not to disclose anything surrounding the termination of the contract with MU. Previously, MU also applied this method with Louis van Gaal and David Moyes.
MU spends 25 million pounds to get Dutch star
The Sun said that interim coach Solskjaer "marked" PSV's 21-year-old talent, Steven Bergwijn, as the perfect addition to MU, in the plan to increase the Red Devils' firepower.
Solskjaer sent someone to look at the young Dutch star's legs before sending his opinion to MU leaders to finalize the deal. |
However, before giving his final opinion to the MU bosses, Solskjaer sent a scout to check the winger's leg again.
Steven Bergwijn has impressed for PSV this season, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 16 appearances, helping the club to the top of the Dutch league. He has a promising future and is expected to develop into a top star if he moves to a bigger league, such as the Premier League.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bergwijn since the summer, but United are now stepping up their interest, potentially pushing for a £25m deal to happen this January, in the winter transfer window.
