Department of Performing Arts: '25 beauty pageants are not a lot'
Mr. Tran Huong Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Performing Arts - said that 25 beauty contests were licensed in 2022, which is normal.
On the afternoon of July 28, a representative of a unit under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism responded to the situation of many consecutive beauty contests being held in the first months of the year, at a regular meeting of the management agency.
According to the old regulations, each year, the Ministry licenses two national beauty contests, three to five beauty pageants and a number of other beauty contests, about 12. During the two years of the pandemic, many entertainment activities, including beauty contests, have been suspended. Mr. Huong Duong said: "Of the 25 contests licensed since the beginning of the year, eight were from two years ago, three have requested to stop organizing, so there are only 14 newly licensed contests. This number is not much."

To address the situation of many competitions with poor quality and violations of regulations, the Department has established an inspection team to review in a number of localities. Specifically, the team inspected in Hanoi (July 6 and 7), Da Nang (July 20-21), and found no violations. In the near future, the inspection team will review in Ho Chi Minh City - where many entertainment activities take place. Mr. Duong said the Department's viewpoint: "If the competitions violate the regulations, we will handle them strictly and in accordance with the law. But this issue must be extremely strict and satisfactory."
The Department representative said that since the licensing of beauty pageants was devolved to the local Department of Culture, provinces and cities have not done a good job of disseminating information. According to Mr. Duong, from now on, the Departments will have to announce local contests on their websites. On the 25th of each month, the Department also needs to update information for the Department to avoid duplicate licensing of similar contests.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Ms. Tran Ly Ly - Director of the Department of Performing Arts - added: "We need to have a multi-dimensional view of beauty and model contests. Besides stories revealing some limitations, it is undeniable that some well-organized playgrounds have made positive contributions to promoting tourism, honoring the beauty of culture and people, and achieving high achievements in the international arena."
According to Ms. Ly Ly, one of the strongest sanctions for individuals and organizations in the performing arts is the strictness of the public, contributing to purifying, eliminating negativity, and honoring true values.
In the first six months of the year, the entertainment industry had dozens of beauty contests. Among them, Miss Universe Vietnam ended on June 25. In July, there were Miss Ethnic Vietnam, Miss Ao Dai Vietnam, and Miss Sports Vietnam.
From now until the end of the year, there will be a series of additional competitions such as: Miss World Vietnam (August 12), Miss Sea and Islands Vietnam (October 22), Miss Vietnam (expected on December 15), Miss Peace Vietnam (September 11), Miss Grand Vietnam (September 25), Miss Supranational Vietnam (October 22), Miss Earth Vietnam (December 30)...
