The chase of 70 gangsters fighting with guns and grenades
Due to a previous conflict, a group of 30 gangsters in Quang Ngai called their rivals in Binh Dinh to arrange a fight. A group of about 40 people from Binh Dinh then drove to the meeting place with grenades and guns.
On June 11, Quang Ngai Provincial Police said they were taking statements from nine people present at a fight involving “hot goods” that occurred in the center of Quang Ngai City nearly a week ago.
“Both gangs are gangsters, very professional in dealing with the police when taking statements. We are struggling to clarify the conflict that led to this fight. The case has not been prosecuted yet,” said a police source, adding that of the 9 people, 6 are gangsters in Binh Dinh, the rest are from a gang in Quang Ngai.

According to the police, at 10pm on June 5, about 30 young men were walking along Truong Chinh Street (Quang Ngai City). When they reached an empty lot at the end of the street, the group called and challenged the gang in Binh Dinh to a duel. A short while later, 6 cars carrying about 40 gangsters with many machetes, swords, knives, grenades, and guns arrived at the meeting point.
"At this time, both sides continued to argue and challenge each other, both with weapons at the ready," said a resident living near the scene, adding that during the argument, gunshots were heard, then a young man shouted "remove the pin and throw the grenade."
Hearing the explosion, many people panicked and closed their doors, not daring to go out to see. People on the street also rushed into people's houses to seek shelter.
Receiving the report from the people, dozens of 113 police officers arrived. “When we approached the scene, we discovered a group of young men hiding in the bushes, the remaining group had gotten into a car. At that time, the 113 police officers divided into two groups, searching for the group of young men who fled on foot and chasing the group who escaped by car,” said Lieutenant Bui Khanh Hung, 113 Police Team (Quang Ngai Provincial Police).
Following the vehicle on Truong Chinh Street to the Bau Giang Bridge roundabout, about a kilometer from the scene, the 113 police discovered a 7-seat Fortuner with a Binh Dinh license plate running at high speed, showing suspicious signs, so they used their horns to signal the vehicle to stop. However, the occupants of the vehicle did not obey the order and sped towards National Highway 1A.
“We continued to chase this car. The driver then drove around the streets to lose the police but failed,” Lieutenant Hung said.
Near Pham Van Dong University, the police car caught up with the Fortuner and restrained three people. At this time, the force at the scene also caught up with a gangster from the Binh Dinh gang.
Determining that many gangsters were still on the run, the leaders of Quang Ngai Provincial Police continued to mobilize 50 criminal police officers to set up checkpoints at many points on the city's roads and organize a search.
At around 0:30 a.m. on June 6, a police team discovered a taxi speeding from Quang Ngai City to Binh Dinh and immediately signaled to stop for inspection. In the car was a young man with an injured arm and bloodstained clothes. About 30 minutes later, the checkpoint force continued to discover a taxi speeding through this section and requested to stop. In this car was a young man speaking with a Binh Dinh accent.

“At first, both young men got out of the car and reacted openly, arguing loudly, claiming that the police had arrested the wrong person. A moment later, both admitted that they were from the Binh Dinh gang and had come to fight,” said a source from Quang Ngai Province Police.
Quang Ngai Province police said that after the incident, authorities seized many bullets, grenades, guns and machetes... The melee was determined to have involved at least 70 people. "We have identified the leaders of the two gangs, are persuading them to surrender, and are verifying the damage after the incident," a police source said, adding that the police are examining the weapons and injuries of those involved to consider prosecuting the case.
A working group of Quang Ngai Provincial Police was sent to Binh Dinh to coordinate with this locality to verify and arrest those involved in the incident.
