The rich life of the boss of a nearly 8,000 billion VND betting ring
Leading an inter-provincial betting ring with transactions of more than 7,600 billion VND, Bui Khac Hien bought a luxury S500 car and enjoyed a life like a tycoon.
The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency is completing documents to prosecute those involved in organizing gambling and betting, led by Bui Khac Hien (52 years old, Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi).
Since the beginning of June, when the Euro football season was about to begin, detectives from the High-Tech Crime Prevention Police Department (C50, Ministry of Public Security) discovered an inter-provincial betting ring with a "huge" amount of money being transacted. Bui Khac Hien was identified as the mastermind, organizing a network of followers in Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa... Two special projects codenamed 416B and 216C were established by C50 to destroy this ring.
On June 12, the authorities simultaneously searched and arrested Hien and 22 others. The authorities announced that this was a betting, lottery, and dice game ring via the Internet, gambling on credit. Unlike the previously busted betting rings that required a deposit for each match to avoid being "cheated" by the players, Hien's ring was all "gangsters" so they would pay a certain amount in advance. After about a week, the payment between the gambler and the "bookie" would be made. This form of play has therefore attracted many participants...
Hien confessed to betting on a website with a server located overseas and a Vietnamese interface. Winning or losing results would be converted into real money to be paid directly to the organizer at a rate of 25,000-100,000 VND/point.
The investigation agency concluded that the ring led by Hien transacted more than 7,600 billion VND.

"Agents" in the provinces are usually organized in an Internet cafe, equipped with a large screen TV for gamblers to place bets and watch the match directly. Players can come directly or call to place bets between 8pm the previous day and 5am the next morning.
According to investigators, with the huge amount of money from running an online soccer betting line, Hien bought a Mercedes S500 (worth more than 5 billion VND), enjoyed a rich life, and often had fun at luxury venues in Hanoi.
During the transactions, Hien rarely showed up and often let his juniors and wife come forward. The authorities confiscated the Mercedes S500, 200 million VND and many devices used for betting...
In response to the above achievements in destroying a "huge" betting ring, the Minister of Public Security sent a letter of commendation to the participating forces.
