Saving the life of a baby boy born from a brain-dead mother
A baby boy in Poland born to a brain-dead mother has been discharged from hospital and returned home.
BBC reported that doctors at Wroclaw University (Poland) kept the brain-dead mother alive for 55 days to wait for the baby boy to develop enough to be born.
The 41-year-old mother was rushed to the hospital 17 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. She had an incurable brain tumor. Her life-sustaining functions had stopped working.

Doctors assessed that the boy's life was in danger and decided to keep the mother at all costs to save the boy's life.
Finally, this luckiest boy in the world was born in January 2016 at the 26th week of pregnancy, weighing only 1 kg.
"It's rare to successfully sustain a pregnancy so long [where the mother is brain dead] at such an early stage, at just 17 or 18 weeks," says Barbara Krolak-Olejnik, head of the Department of Pediatrics at Wroclaw University Hospital.
"The patient's whole family wanted us to try to save the child," added Barbara Krolak-Olejnik.
The boy spent three months in intensive care and has now been discharged home with his family, weighing 3kg.
The mother's life support was previously turned off shortly after her son was born.
