Former Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko, in an interview with the Glavcom portal, expressed his opposition to the claims of the new Kiev authorities on Crimea.

According to the politician, the Ukrainian leadership could recognize the peninsula as Russian in exchange for resolving the conflict in Donbass.

“However, they will immediately lose all power. First of all, it will be very dangerous for everyone, because the fate of the new politicians interests me much less,” Poroshenko said.

The former president stressed that he did not want to give public advice to the current head of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, but suggested that “overwhelming risks and threats” from Russia should be taken into account.

Earlier, Mr. Zelensky said that in his first meeting with President Vladimir Putin, he would confirm that Crimea and the Donbass region belong to Ukraine. In response, the spokesman for the Russian President, Mr. Dmitry Peskov, emphasized that the sovereignty of Donbass should be determined by its people, “as for Crimea, there is nothing to discuss.”
