His most recent visit was on April 11, when special envoy Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, where they discussed aspects of the solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Previously, on March 13, Mr. Steve Witkoff also visited Moscow. There, he met with high-ranking Russian representatives, and in the evening he was received by the Russian president. Special envoy Witkoff provided Mr. Putin with additional data on Ukraine. And for his part, leader Vladimir Putin passed on information and signals to his American counterpart.
Mr. Witkoff's first visit to Russia was on February 11.
President Trump also noted and reiterated that sanctions will come into effect if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire by August 8.
"There will be sanctions, but it seems like Russia is pretty good at avoiding sanctions. So we'll see what happens," Trump said.
