Vietnamese Ambassador elected Vice President of the United Nations International Law Commission
The 70th session of the United Nations International Law Commission took place from April 30 to June 1, 2018, at the UN Headquarters in New York (USA) and from July 3 to August 10, 2018, in Geneva (Switzerland).

This is an important session, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the International Law Commission, the key UN body in codifying and developing international law.
At this session, Ambassador Nguyen Hong Thao, a member of Vietnam, was honored to be elected as the Second Vice Chairman of the Committee.
According to the agenda, at this session, the Commission will consider a series of contemporary issues of international law such as: Application of the Agreement and practical implementation of the interpretation of international treaties; Determining international customs; Protection of the atmosphere; Peremptory norms in international law; Protection of the environment in armed conflicts; Provisional application of international treaties; Succession of state responsibility; Consequences of rising sea levels in international law; Principle of universal criminal jurisdiction in international law.
The Vietnamese delegation actively participated in the Committee's activities in proposing the development of international law regulations based on the principles of respecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, human rights and sustainable development.
