(Baonghean.vn) - Through evaluation, the two 3-line rice varieties VT868 and International I have very high yields, rice grains meet export and domestic consumption standards, have a wide range of adaptability, and are less susceptible to pests and diseases; Nghe An has identified them as two of the province's key rice varieties in the coming time.

In order to evaluate the yield potential and adaptability of the 3-line hybrid rice variety VT868 and Quoc te I, produced by Viet Long Joint Venture Company Limited in Nghe An province in the 2023 spring crop, this morning (May 15), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a field workshop in Dien Chau district.

Actual yield is from 8.6 - 8.8 tons/ha

VT868 is a 3-line hybrid rice variety, researched, bred and developed by scientists of Viet Long Joint Venture Company Limited in cooperation with scientists of Hunan Rice Institute, Tianjin (China). This rice variety is of high quality, with fragrant rice, rich flavor, sticky and delicious, so it is chosen by localities to put into main production in many provinces and cities across the country. The rice variety has been granted Circulation Decision No. 312 / QD-TT-CLT dated October 25, 2022 by the Department of Crop Production - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam.

Also a 3-line hybrid rice variety, International I is a rice variety selected and created by the Shenzhen Tsinghua Longgang Research Institute - China's Hybrid Rice Cultivation Technical Research Center; it has been officially recognized as a new crop variety by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development since 2019 and is in the process of expanding production in provinces and cities nationwide.

These are rice varieties with very high yields. VT868 yields 10-12 tons/ha, and can reach 15-16 tons/ha under intensive farming conditions. International I rice varieties yield an average of 8-9 tons/ha, and can reach 11-12 tons/ha under intensive farming conditions.

Orientation to become a key rice variety

In the 2023 spring crop, two 3-line rice varieties VT868 and Quoc te I have been introduced into the production structure of Nghe An province. Ms. Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: In addition to high yield, good quality, fragrant and long grains, meeting export and domestic consumption standards, through actual production, the above two rice varieties also show common progressive characteristics such as: Wide range of adaptation, strong tillering ability, saving investment costs; strong plants, good lodging resistance; cold tolerance and good resistance to some major pests and diseases that frequently appear in the province, such as blast, brown spot, and leaf blight. In fact, in this year's spring crop, they were almost not infected or infected at an insignificant level. In Dien Chau district, the actual yield reached 8 tons/ha.

Ms. Vo Thi Nhung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: Based on the results of practical models, the Department will continue to research and incorporate these rice varieties into the structure in the next production seasons. Photo: Phu Huong

“Initial assessment shows that these are two rice varieties with a wide range of adaptability and biological characteristics suitable for production in many soils and rice growing areas of Nghe An. However, to be proactive in production development, units need to have realistic assessments for different production seasons, not only in the spring crop but also in the summer-autumn crop,” Ms. Vo Thi Nhung shared.

The representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development suggested that the company continue to coordinate with localities to build production models in the upcoming summer-autumn crop, so that based on actual results, the Department will have a basis to orient the structure in the next production seasons. At the same time, continue to research and perfect the process to both promote the good characteristics of the varieties and help farmers easily access the rice varieties that are considered new in this area. Each locality will base on its actual conditions to arrange for appropriate production.

In the 2023 spring crop, hybrid rice varieties VT868 and Quoc te I have been put into production in 8 districts: Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu, Nam Dan, Nghia Dan, Tan Ky, Anh Son and Nghi Loc. Through actual production, the average yield is from 8.6 to 8.8 tons/ha; in the coming time, Nghe An will put them into development to expand the area, these are 2 of the main rice varieties of the province.
