Mong man sentenced to 6 years in prison for seriously injuring his wife

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 6, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Lau Ba Cho (born 1989), Mong ethnic group, for the crime of murder.

At around 12 noon on April 29, 2017, Lau Ba Cho (also known as Lau Giong Dia), residing in Nam Khien 1 village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, went from his house to his family's cornfield to call his wife, Vu Y Nhenh, to his brother's house to help with the "spirit making" for the family.

When he arrived at the cornfield, Cho saw Ms. Nhenh weeding with a hoe. Cho said, "You're doing a blessing ceremony for your brother, why don't you come back to help?" Ms. Nhenh replied, "Why didn't you call your wife and children first when your brother's family was doing a blessing ceremony?"

The two argued, then out of frustration, Cho took the hoe from Ms. Nênh's hand and threw it on the ground, punching Ms. Nênh in the stomach. Being hurt, Ms. Nênh tried to run away, but Cho used his hand to grab Ms. Nênh's collar to hold her back. When her pleas to her husband failed, Ms. Nênh used her foot to kick Cho's shoulder and then got up and ran away. Cho immediately used the hoe to hit Ms. Nênh three times, hitting her in the head, arms, and face.

Ms. Nhenh fainted and lay face down on the ground, her entire head and face were bleeding profusely. After seriously injuring his wife, Cho did not take her to the emergency room but quietly returned home.

At around 1pm the same day, after being knocked unconscious by Cho, Ms. Nhenh woke up and tried to go home. On the way home, people saw her and Ms. Cho was taken to the emergency room at Ky Son District General Hospital.

In the forensic examination conclusion on injuries of the Forensic Center, Nghe An Department of Health concluded that the damage to Ms. Vu Y Nhenh's health caused by the injury was 14%.

At the trial, Lau Ba Cho admitted his crime. After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Lau Ba Cho to 6 years in prison for “Murder”.
