Poisoning her husband, the wife cried out for 'accidentally' dropping rat poison into the pot

(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of June 27, the High People's Court in Hanoi opened a criminal appeal trial to try the murder case against Dau Thi Hue (born in 1988), residing in Nghi Cong Nam commune, Nghi Loc, Nghe An.

According to the indictment, Dau Thi Hue and her husband, Phan Truong Phi, often had conflicts. Because they could not reconcile, Phi asked Hue to sign the divorce papers.

On the afternoon of March 26, 2015, taking advantage of the moment when Phi was not paying attention, Dau Thi Hue put a packet of rat poison into the pot of intestines with the intention of poisoning her husband. The incident was discovered, Hue asked her husband for forgiveness but then fled.

On March 29, Hue returned and surrendered to the Nghi Loc District Police investigation agency.

On September 24, 2015, the People's Court of Nghe An province sentenced Dau Thi Hue to 4 years in prison for murder, a case of attempted murder. Hue appealed to the High People's Court in Hanoi for a reduced sentence.

At the appeal hearing, Hue changed her appeal from a request for a reduced sentence to an appeal for injustice. The defendant claimed that she did not intend to put rat poison in the pot of food to poison her husband, but rather intended to commit suicide. Later, the defendant changed her statement to “accidentally” dropping rat poison into the pot of food. The defendant claimed that during the interrogation at the investigation agency, she was forced to confess, even though her defense attorney was present at all the meetings. Dau Thi Hue pleaded injustice, requesting the court to return the case file for reinvestigation.

Based on the case file, based on the self-declarations, the statements witnessed by the defense attorney at the investigation agency, based on the testimony of witnesses and related people, the High People's Court's panel of judges determined that the first instance court's sentence of defendant Dau Thi Hue to 4 years in prison for murder, which is a case of attempted murder, was the right person, the right crime, and the right law. The presiding judge of the trial held that there was no basis to overturn the first instance judgment, reinvestigate the case, reject the appeal and uphold the first instance judgment against Dau Thi Hue.
