Eating food or drinking water contaminated with pork tapeworm eggs or larvae causes tapeworm infection. Intestinal tapeworm infections are usually mild, but invasive larval infections can cause serious complications.

Abdominal pain and nausea can be among the symptoms of pork tapeworm infection.

Weak
Anorexia

If tapeworm larvae have migrated out of the intestine and formed cysts in other tissues, they can cause organ and tissue damage, resulting in:
Fever
Cyst or tumor
Allergic reaction to the larvae
Infection
Neurological signs and symptoms include seizures.

Other symptoms not listed may occur. If you have any concerns about your symptoms, consult your doctor.

With pork tapeworm larvae disease, people eat pork tapeworm eggs infected in food. After eating or swallowing tapeworm eggs, the eggs enter the stomach, hatch into larvae, reach the small intestine, the larvae penetrate the digestive tract wall into the blood and move to parasitize in skeletal muscles, brain, eyes, etc. Illustrative photo

According to Dr. Tu Ngu (General Secretary of the Vietnam Nutrition Association), each type of worm, when entering the body, will cause different destruction in the body. They can eat into the brain, heart muscle, eyes or just cause itching, pus and dermatitis.

Eating undercooked pork is a high risk of infection with tapeworms. Adult tapeworms develop rapidly in the intestines of pigs and can affect the human brain. In addition, pork tapeworms also develop through larvae such as contact with pig feces, or contact with infected people. This can infect some tissues in the human body.

If the larvae enter the nervous system, this can cause neurocysticercosis, a serious brain infection. If the worms enter the brain, the person may have epilepsy.

In case of self-infection with tapeworm larvae or infection due to unsanitary food containing tapeworm eggs, these tapeworm larvae will enter the brain, eyes, muscles, skin... which is very dangerous. If the tapeworm nests in the eyes, it can cause eyeball protrusion, strabismus, double vision, retinal detachment, vision loss, and possibly blindness. When the tapeworm runs into the brain, you may have headaches, epilepsy, mental disorders, visual disturbances, and memory loss. Tapeworm nests in the heart will cause heart rhythm disturbances, affect the heart valves, and lead to heart failure.
