The exam question about "passing down" folk games surprised many candidates in Nghe An.
After 120 minutes of testing, at exactly 10:00 a.m. this morning, the candidates completed the Literature exam of the 10th grade entrance exam, school year 2025-2026. This year's exam covered the role of the younger generation in preserving folk cultural values, a rather new topic for the candidates, making it difficult for them to do the test.
Questions about folk games make it difficult for candidates
The Literature exam consists of two parts: reading comprehension and writing. The reading part includes an excerpt from the work “On the Wings of a Dragonfly” and requires candidates to answer the requirements of the text.

Meanwhile, the writing section has 2 parts, in which the argumentative essay section requires analysis of the character Tung in the excerpt. In the social argumentative section, the topic is about folk games with strong Vietnamese cultural features that are being lost in modern life. Candidates are asked to discuss how folk games are passed down in today's life.

Trinh Phuong Thao (student of Cua Nam Secondary School, Vinh City) shared that she was surprised when reading the Literature exam. Although she determined that the text of the exam might not be in the textbook, and that in the past, her teachers had reviewed her skills and methods of analyzing any text, the excerpt from the work "On the Dragonfly Wings" was completely new to her.

I tried to stick to the text to answer the questions in the reading comprehension section and write a paragraph analyzing the character. The social argument question was very different from my previous prediction. This year is an even number of historical events such as the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, so I and many of my classmates focused more on reviewing the topics of revolutionary traditions, educating young people about moral ideals... However, the topic was about preserving and maintaining folk games. This is also a topic about traditional values, but talking specifically about folk games is quite surprising. In the essay, I mentioned the games I participated in, named the folk artists who have made great contributions to preserving traditional cultural values in Nghe An as well as in the whole country.

Le Dan Quynh, a student at Le Loi Secondary School (Vinh City), shared that the test was quite long and she took advantage of all the time to be able to complete the test. With the social argument question - according to this year's exam structure, it is worth 4 points, so this is the focus of her test. She has participated in folk games organized by the school such as tug of war, stick pushing, hopscotch, jump rope, etc. Therefore, she used evidence from her school. She believes that when there is space and organization, folk games are still very attractive to young people. They are entertaining after stressful school hours, practice skills, health and especially create a spirit of solidarity among students.
Candidates must apply knowledge into practice.
In the districtQuy HopAfter finishing the Literature exam, many candidates at Quy Hop High School said that the exam was in accordance with the structure they had reviewed.
Student Ho The Dat - Chau Quang Secondary School shared: "The test was within my ability, I did about 70%. In my opinion, question 2 classifies students about cultural identity, which is a current issue of interest and practicality, and question 4 clearly classifies students."

As for Truong Thi Huyen - a candidate from Van Son Secondary School, she said: "I found the Literature test not too difficult, not too easy, I reviewed it differently from the test. I think I got about 6 points."
Talking about LiteratureGrade 10This year, Ms. Vo Thi Phuong - Literature teacher, Chau Dinh Secondary School (Quy Hop) said: "The test is built closely following the structure of the 2018 General Education program and the review orientation of the Department of Education and Training, so students are not surprised when doing the test. The test is open-ended, using materials outside of textbooks, contributing to comprehensively assessing reading comprehension, writing and learner qualities according to the requirements of the new program. Reading comprehension section: Tests students' ability to read texts at a level that is within their ability, with differentiated questions. In the writing section, the social argumentation essay guides students to preserve the beauty of traditional national values in modern life. The level of the test is appropriate to students' actual abilities, ensuring that it is within their ability, differentiated and suitable for developing students' qualities and abilities."

At the exam site of Dang Thuc Hua High School, Kim Bang commune(Thanh Chuong), Doan Van Truong, a 9th grader at Thanh Khe Secondary School, said: I think the Literature exam is within the candidates' ability. With this exam, I think the essay writing part discussing the way folk games are passed down in today's life is more difficult. I predict that I will get 7 points.

At the Con Cuong district exam site, some candidates said that the content of the exam was assessed as close to the curriculum, while also encouraging students' ability to appreciate literature and creative thinking.

Vi Thi Hoa - student at the exam site of High SchoolCon Cuongsaid: “The reading comprehension section is taken from a short story that is light and easy to understand, but the questions still require me to read carefully and analyze the details. The social argument about folk games is very realistic, helping me relate to today's life. The literary argument about the character Tung is a bit more difficult but very touching.”
Some local Literature teachers also commented that the exam had reasonable differentiation, ensuring educational and literary values. The questions in the exam encouraged students not only to memorize but also to understand and apply knowledge in practice.

Present at the Anh Son 1 High School exam site, the exam site with the largest number of candidates in the district with 591 candidates, Nguyen Quynh Anh shared: This year's Literature exam is basically within the curriculum, carefully reviewed by teachers, the exam includes 3 questions: reading comprehension, social commentary and literary commentary. I really like the social commentary question with the content: "How to pass down folk games in today's life", in addition to the knowledge learned, candidates have a lot of documents and evidence during the test. I am satisfied with my exam and think I will get about 8 points.

Leaving the exam site in the blazing hot weather, however, most of the candidates taking the Literature exam this morning in the districtDo Luongquite optimistic when asked about the exam. Nguyen Thi Khanh Linh said: "The exam was within my ability, I was able to do the entire exam. I really like the reading comprehension question, it's like returning to my childhood, I often followed my brother to the fields to fly kites. The kites filled with wind, the villages of my hometown are so rustic and lovely. I did this question with full emotion."
Nguyen Thai Tuan, a student at Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, said the test was quite easy, and he liked question number 2 about folk games.

Talking about this exam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai, Dong Hieu Secondary School, a Literature teacher, said: With this year's Literature exam, students only need to concentrate and understand the skills to be able to achieve 6 to 7 points. For those with good academic ability, sharp thinking, and high skills, it is completely possible to achieve good scores.
The preservation of folk games in today's life is an extremely urgent issue. Folk games are not only a form of entertainment but also a treasure trove of culture, history, and folk knowledge accumulated over many generations. They reflect the daily life, work, and beliefs of the Vietnamese people, while contributing to personality education, physical training, and social skills development, especially for young people who need to recognize and join hands in preserving the national cultural identity.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Hai - Literature teacher at Dong Hieu Secondary School
Student Lo Thanh Huyen, a candidate from Quy Chau High School, shared:
In question 2 (4.0 points) of this year's exam, the question requires candidates to write an essay discussing the way folk games are passed down in today's life. This is a practical and humane topic, especially in the context of modern society witnessing the gradual decline of traditional cultural values.

"Currently, folk games such as tug of war, mandarin squares, blindfolded goat catching, and to mac le (Thai people) are still present in community activities. This topic certainly creates favorable conditions for students to develop practical experiences and multi-dimensional perspectives. Through this, students not only demonstrate their argumentative skills, but also have the opportunity to express the feelings and responsibilities of the young generation towards preserving the national cultural traditions," shared Ms. Nguyen Trang Nhung, Literature teacher at Quy Chau High School.
According to this teacher, with an open-ended approach, the exam not only tests essay writing skills, but also stimulates critical thinking, encouraging students to connect cultural knowledge with real life, one of the important requirements of the current education program.
