The Kremlin said on December 12 that the US could not change the course of the war in Ukraine by pumping tens of billions of dollars into the country. The information was released before planned talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US leaders, according to Reuters news agency.

In talks in Washington later on December 12 with US President Joe Biden and US congressional leaders, Mr Zelensky will propose a request for more US aid for Ukraine’s war, but Republican lawmakers are increasingly skeptical about the aid.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said Russia would "very closely monitor" Mr. Zelensky's meetings in Washington.

“It is important for everyone to understand that tens of billions of dollars pumped into Ukraine have not helped the country achieve any success on the battlefield,” Mr. Peskov said at a regular press conference.

"The tens of billions of dollars that Ukraine wants to pump into its economy will also face similar failures... This will not only not change the situation on the battlefield, but also not change the course of the special military operation," Mr. Peskov said.

Mr Peskov said Ukraine's failures on the battlefield were weakening Mr Zelensky's position.

The next round of US aid to Ukraine has been delayed due to demands by House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans that no more money be sent unless steps are first taken to tighten control of the US border with Mexico.
