National scale aviation search and rescue exercise in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 10, the Ministry of Transport organized the 2015 aviation search and rescue exercise at Bai Lu, Nghi Yen commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province.

Attending the drill were comrades: Hoang Trung Hai - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Air Defense - Air Force, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention & Search and Rescue of Nghe An province and representatives of leaders of units with forces participating in the drill.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Xuan Son - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and leaders of provincial departments and branches.

The drill scenario is: On domestic air route W2, flight DT2015, Super King Air 200 aircraft took off from Noi Bai airport to Dong Hoi airport. After passing the DVOR/DME Nam Ha navigation station for 12 minutes, the Hanoi Area Control Center (ACC HAN) received a report from the crew: "The aircraft has engine failure, please land at Vinh airport". 5 minutes later, the aircraft turned on the emergency code 7700 and reported additionally: "Engine power decreased and there is smoke in the cockpit, please make an emergency landing". Immediately after that, the signal on the radar screen was lost and it was impossible to contact the aircraft. In that situation, the Aviation Search and Rescue system activated the search and rescue plan. The forces deployed the search and rescue plan for the crashed aircraft.

Equipment and means include: 2 specialized search and rescue aircraft, seaplanes; 07 maritime search and rescue ships and boats; ships of the Coast Guard, Border Guard; 11 specialized aviation search and rescue vehicles and equipment; command vehicles, search and rescue vehicles, transport vehicles...

This exercise aims to train and improve the ability to organize, command and operate search and rescue (SAR) operations in flight information regions and authorized airspace and authorized airspace areas undertaken by Vietnam.

This is also an opportunity to test the ability to organize, command, coordinate and operate aviation rescue operations. Practice techniques to search for the location of low-altitude aircraft in distress based on distress signal information received from the ELT system.

Through the exercise, Vietnam will also introduce and demonstrate to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), civil aviation organizations and aircraft operators in the region and the world its ability to ensure search and rescue services.

Speaking at the drill, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai emphasized that the civil aviation industry is an extremely important industry, so to ensure the development of the civil aviation industry and meet domestic and international needs, ensuring the safety of the aviation industry is an extremely urgent task. Moreover, it is impossible to foresee all situations that may arise during a flight, so drills must be considered a regular task.
