Cho Rang Communal House was started in 1861, inaugurated in 1862, and there are still Chinese characters describing the time of its construction. Cho Rang Communal House is a 5-room wooden house built in the style of a gong stand, standing firmly on 24 pillars (divided into 4 rows). The frame of the communal house is made entirely of ironwood with a solid structure. |

According to Mr. Duong Phuc Hieu - a historical researcher in Do Luong, Cho Rang Communal House is an ancient structure located in a complex of relics in Rang, such as Rang rapids, Rang ferry, Rang temple, Rang school (built by Mr. Tu Sy in 1925), Rang market, Rang station (forest ranger station, later a French green-clad soldier station) where the Do Luong mutiny in 1941 originated. During the years of fighting against the French, Cho Rang communal house witnessed many brutal tortures by the French against revolutionary soldiers and was a testament to the Do Luong mutiny led by Doi Cung. On the night of January 13, 1941, from Cho Rang station, Doi Cung and soldiers rose up in a riot, captured Do Luong station, then advanced to Vinh to coordinate with soldiers there to capture the Nghe An citadel's military camp. The Rang - Luong mutiny was brutally suppressed, Doi Cung and some of his colleagues were executed by the French colonialists, but their patriotic spirit still shone. After nearly 160 years of existence, due to moving, sun, rain, wind and storms, lack of attention and renovation... Cho Rang communal house has seriously degraded. After the new Rang market was built and put into use, the communal house is no longer a place for business and trade, standing alone in the middle of an abandoned market. The roof of the communal house has broken rafters in many places, large pieces of tiles have fallen off, the sun shines, the rain leaks. The ironwood pillars have begun to rot on top due to water seepage, the wooden structure is no longer sturdy... If not repaired promptly, it is inevitable that Cho Rang communal house will collapse soon. In the photo: Many broken wooden details are placed on the communal house beams by the people. |

I think that an ancient communal house that has been associated with Rang for more than 1.5 centuries, a meeting place, a place for religious activities of the people, a witness to important historical events that took place in this locality cannot collapse... More than ever, at this time, the restoration of the ancient communal house to be a place for spiritual and cultural activities, a place to educate revolutionary and patriotic traditions, a place to preserve the memories of many generations of people in Rang area is the legitimate wish of the local people. In the photo: The communal house's inscription is dilapidated and broken. |

Although it has been included in the approved list of relics and scenic spots of the province, Cho Rang communal house is still "crying for help" because of its degradation and desolation. Mr. Le Van Nghi - Chairman of Thanh Hung Commune People's Committee said that currently, the local government has met to discuss and plan to restore the communal house, first of all saving the tiles and wood. The commune has planted concrete pillars and strung barbed wire around the communal house. According to preliminary calculations, it will cost hundreds of millions of dong to renovate this project, but the commune budget does not have any, so it is calling for contributions from benefactors inside and outside the locality. |
