Delegation of the US Embassy in Vietnam works in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 15, a delegation from the US Embassy in Vietnam led by Mr. Matthew Stannard - Political Officer visited and worked in Nghe An to learn about and discuss the socio-economic development situation of the province. Receiving and working with the delegation were Mr. Tran Khanh Thuc - Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and a number of departments and agencies.

At the meeting, the delegation of the US Embassy heard general information about natural conditions, population, socio-economic development, especially investment attraction, budget collection, import and export; cooperation activities between Nghe An and US partners in various fields.
Accordingly, in terms of trade, in 2021, the total import-export turnover between Nghe An and its partners in the United States reached 205.5 million USD. Of which, Nghe An exported 196.8 million USD and imported nearly 9 million USD from the United States. In the first 5 months of this year, the import-export turnover reached 96.2 million USD, of which Nghe An imported 15.8 million USD.
Nghe An exports to the US market mainly textiles, steel, cement, and paving stones, and imports from the US mainly textile materials, electronic components, and plastic beads.
In addition to trade cooperation, in recent years, the Embassy and a number of US organizations have implemented cooperation programs in Nghe An related to areas such as education - training, culture, poverty reduction, and climate change adaptation. The US has also provided non-refundable aid to build educational and health facilities in the province.
In particular, Nghe An has recently effectively coordinated with its US partner to carry out excavation and search work for US soldiers missing in action (MIA) in Thanh Tien commune, Thanh Chuong district.

In the general context of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Partnership increasingly developing positively in all fields, at the meeting, Director of Nghe An Department of Foreign Affairs Tran Khanh Thuc requested the US Embassy in Vietnam to support introducing businesses to explore investment opportunities; as well as create opportunities for Nghe An to participate in cooperation forums with US partners and support connections with the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), the US - ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) to seek investment cooperation opportunities.
Along with that, Nghe An also proposed some cooperation contents in the fields of education and training, aid in the field of natural disaster prevention and control...
At the meeting, the two sides also openly discussed a number of issues related to the labor and employment situation; the recovery of the tourism industry after Covid-19; orientations for developing the digital economy, digital transformation, circular economy, green growth; seaport infrastructure; initiatives and projects to strengthen the province's efforts in preventing and combating human trafficking; and preventing and combating natural disasters.

In the increasingly strengthened and deepened relationship in all fields between Vietnam and the United States, Mr. Matthew Stannard expressed his excitement to visit and work in Nghe An, a locality with an important role and position in Vietnam.
Mr. Matthew Stannard said that, besides Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An is the first provincial locality he chose to work in since taking up his post at the US Embassy in Vietnam; thereby highly appreciating the useful information received through the meeting, thereby gaining more understanding, uniqueness, and characteristics of the province's socio-economic situation.
