Vietnam Sports Delegation May Cut Athletes Attending SEA Games 32

The Vietnamese Sports Delegation plans to reduce the number of members participating in the 32nd SEA Games. Director of the Department of High Performance Sports 2 Vu Ich Quan said: "In terms of policy, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will cut athletes who are predicted to have little or no chance of winning medals. The number of athletes under the management of the Department of High Performance Sports 2 is not large."

Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Tran Duc Phan said that there is no official list of the Vietnamese sports delegation attending the 32nd SEA Games. After the meeting on April 3, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training will review the list and submit it to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will participate in 31/37 sports. The delegation's goal is to win about 100 gold medals, placing in the top 3 leading delegations. However, the host country Cambodia has cut many events in the Olympic program as well as Vietnam's strengths such as shooting, rowing, archery, etc.
The 32nd SEA Games will take place from May 5 to May 17. The five competition venues include Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep. Some competitions will take place before the opening day. Sports delegations from the Southeast Asian region will also be present in Cambodia from April to prepare for the competition.
In March 2023, host Cambodia finalized the list of 37 sports to be competed in the 32nd SEA Games, one more than the expected list. The last sport to be included is Bokator - a traditional Cambodian martial art, which was included in the competition program to promote the host./.
